You are correct that once you know the interest rates are going up then YOU & YOU alone make the decision whether or not to use the credit cards. If you make the debt, pay it.
OK however what about someone like me who had credit cards opened up under my name without my knowledge or approval with statements being sent to a different address than mine? This started 3 years ago & I only found out about it last year right around this time. the police don't want to be involved b/c their opinion is that I should have filed a report sooner. How could I when I didn't know? I have called & written the credit card companies asking for copies of statements only to be refused. I have spent the past year trying to work with these banks to work payoff's without any success at all.
I'm screwed & I did nothing wrong. All of the credit cards I opened up are all in excellent standing.
Trust me I wouldn't want to do your job at all.
Have you talked to the Fraud departments at each Credit Card company??

I don't need a hardship program. I need the credit card company to live up to their end of the contract they gave me. Not to go up as long as I paid on time and didn't go over the limit. They are the ones that broke their word and their contract not me. Why should I have to pay for their disception and greed.

Agreed, if you incurred the charge while at 12% interest, I think it is unfair for the cc company to raise it to 29% because they want to.
Keep the charges made at 12% at 12% and new charges at 29%
At least then it would be fair if you wanted to finance your purchases at the 29% rate or not.

And when I called them they had the nerve to tell me I could always stop using them and pey them off and that it was because of the economy. My interest rate should be based on how I pay not on how someone else doesn't pay. The higher interest rate makes it really hard for me to make the minimum payments now where before I was paying more than the minimum. For the first time since I've had the cards I'm worried about getting behind on them now. I wasn't having a problem till they raised the rates.
OH yes , we are retired and this has happened to us. We are in the worst financial position we have ever been in. I am scared silly.

I know how you feel. We weren't having a problem till they raised the rates. It really ticks me off that they did that after us paying them with no problems. Even when my husband didn't work for a year and had no money coming in we paid them on time every month and this is how they repay us.

Bank of America did this to my mom and aunt. Neither of them were ever late. They didn't even use the cards that much. Not only did the rates go up but they got their limit lowered as well.

Oh trust me I HAVE! *LOL* I have 2 brief cases full of correspondence with them. They just don't care. Should have called 3 years ago. How could I when I didn't know? I finally did get Chase to release statements & there were charges when I was in a hospital. Yea I'm buying gas & cigars while hooked to an IV.
One card was outright stolen out of my purse & that credit card company I called the fraud unit the day I received my statement & was told too bad since I knew the idenity of that person.
They are all the same, pay us our %$#* money & you take that person to small claims. HELLO...we are talking $35,000 here!
The police were we have bigger crimes to worry about.
