That is why I'm VERY hesitant about buying online. I know company's CLAIM they are safe. But I have talked to my banks and you would NOT believe the amount of fraud that goes on from people buying online with cc's etc.
Company's are not updating their security systems to keep up with the hackers fast enough. They feel its to expensive and in the meantime we the consumers pay when someone gets a stolen identity. Its sad and to me uncalled for. JMHO.
Sorry this happens to you. I know I am vigilant about going thru my bill EVERY month and keep ALL my reciepts. Its kinda a hassle but better to be safe than sorry. Plus I BURN or shred EVERY receipt after that. Even with a partial # on it.

Did you get your money back? We had 600 bucks stolen from our checking account. We know (with some certainty but not complete certainty) who did it. They gave us our money back but they never pursued it. Other than that... he doesn't work for a CC company, so I have no idea how to answer your question.

Something similiar happened to us. I posted it in another thread. Anyway, we keep a separate bank account just for online purchases. We don't keep much more than a hundred in it at any time. It's better than worrying about our regular bank account being wiped out.

That's a good idea !
I got a call from my bank about three weeks ago that my debit card was "possibly in a compromised position", that, the number had been stolen along with others, but, they didn't think it had been 'hacked' yet. They canceled my old card, and, sent me a new one. They said the 'theft' would have been between July 08 and January 09.

I have a seperate account also for ebay/paypal. I couldn't see our main account being tied to paypal to pay for ebay purchases.
never more than $300 bucks in it.
I just checked my account, the pending is gone, the 59.95 is reversed and the 141.34 is there yet, but am confident that will be reversed by Monday.
My card number is different now also, so I'll have that by next week.

I didn't get a penny back. I am still paying Bank of America for payments made to the IRS for over $8,000. iRS doesn't care, BOA doesn't care & enither do the police. I am screwed any way you look at it. I either make the payments or try & find this jerk & take him to small claims & I still lose money.

$8000??? That's well above the felony amount. I'd demand the police do something. I'd keep going to different ones until someone did something.

In total we are talking around $50,000. This is the fact that I believe my local police department can not understand. I think I am going to make an appointment with the chief of police on Monday & if that doesn't work I am going to the state police. It took me 2 years for the cc companies to release the statements to me.

Hell, I'd even go to the District Attorney... and if that didn't work, then hell yeah I'd go to the FBI. That's absolutely crazy that the police aren't doing anything... Take it to your politicians if you have to!!!

I have called & written letters to all os my local, state & federal authorities. yep even the President. The few that did reply said to contact my local police dept. I did find a letter from the state police to contact an officer there if I didn't get results. My local police were highly insulted that I wrote to all of these people, but did they bother to contact me, NOPE!
I explained that it ws nothing aginst them but all I was trying to accomplish was to get these cc companies to release the statements. How can I go into a police station w/o proof? It took almost 6 months to get these statements released.
