HIV/AIDS and Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM)

Various young men in social setting. The term men who have sex with men (MSM) refers to all men who have sex with other men, regardless of how they identify themselves (gay, bisexual, or heterosexual). In the United States, HIV and AIDS have had a tremendous impact on MSM. Consider these facts:

    * AIDS has been diagnosed for more than half a million MSM. Over 300,000 MSM with AIDS have died since the beginning of the epidemic.
    *
    * MSM made up more than two thirds (68%) of all men living with HIV in 2005, even though only about 5% to 7% of men in the United States reported having sex with other men. In a 2005 study of 5 large US cities, 46% of African American MSM were HIV-postitive.

Since HIV/AIDS in MSM was first diagnosed 1981, gay and bisexual men have been leaders in dealing with the challenges of the epidemic. Gay organizations and activists, through their work, have contributed greatly to many of the guidelines for prevention, treatment, and the care of people living with HIV/AIDS.

For complex reasons, HIV/AIDS continues to take a high toll on the MSM population. For example, the number of new HIV/AIDS cases among MSM in 2005 was 11% more than the number of cases in 2001. It is unclear whether this increase is due to more testing, which results in more diagnoses, or to an increase in the number of HIV infections. Whatever the reasons, in 2005, MSM still accounted for about 53% of all new HIV/AIDS cases and 71% of cases in male adults and adolescents.

I really don't care what the Bible says. I could say "Then Jesus looked at them and said that homosexuals were abomoniations who were going to hell and nver, ever, ever should they be allowed to marry." and it still wouldn't matter to me. The law should not be based on any religion. I sure wouldn't want someone deciding that it should be perfectly legal for my husband to beat me or rape me or take another wife without my consent because someone else's religion says it's ok. Just as I highly doubt anyone else here would find that acceptable, I don't find it acceptable that someone should say their religious book says homosexuals shouldn't marry so they try to make laws based on that. If you don't like the idea of homosexuals getting married then marry someone from the opposite sex. The fact that it's wrong in someone else's religious book or they find it yucky or they are supposedly worried about diseases for them shouldn't be a basis for a law.

This is only my opinion but I feel that our bodies were made the way they are for a reason. A man and a woman fit perfectly. Two men or two women don't. Now that I said that I want to say that I have nothing against gay people. I knew a very flamboyant gay man that was very fun to be around.

okay, so let's just allow the lesbians to marry lol. we all know it's more acceptable for 2 girls getting in on than 2 guys. j/k!

i suppose the reason for this would be that 2 women are least likely to bring blood during sex than 2 men and maybe ejaculate has more of the virus in it than does other body fluids. but this is just a guess, i haven't researched it.

For anyone who insists that we must accept the entire Bible, and that we shouldn't pick and choose (thus, we should consider homosexuality as an abomination), do you follow ALL the rules/laws in the Old Testament? What about the things in there about how anyone disrespectful to their parents should be put to death, about how to treat your slaves, how anyone who is of "mixed tribes" (mixed race) is an abomination, anyone wearing clothing of mixed fibers should be stoned to death, and on and on? Those things go against what Jesus preached in the New Testament. He preached love and told us not to judge. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I believe God wants us to love and be kind to one another, above all else (the Golden Rule).

As for having a homesexual couple or a religious Christian family next door, I don't care just as long as they don't push me to convert to their way of thinking! I find that annoying and insulting; I have my beliefs and I think they're just as valid as you think yours are! (And that's what I told my very, very pushy born-again neighbor recently, when he brought up homosexuality.)

I think aids may be prevalent in heterosexual woman either because they practice unsafe sex or they think they're in a monogamous relationship so they don't feel like they need to use protection. But the person they're in the relationship with isn't being monogamous and is fooling around with other people.

Gay people... Religious people are crazy & always want to be up in your business. I had one of the craziest bible thumpers walking living next to me a few years ago. This crazy woman would stand out in her front yard screaming bible scriptures. Put her toilet in the front yard and put flowers in it, the crazy b*tch would crap in buckets and throw it in my yard and the neighbor on the opposite side of her, torcher baby chicks..She was something else...I don't to much care for religious people, they are way the hell out there..

AIDS can effect us all...Allthough it was meant as a gay disease when the Government first introduced it to the homosexual population. What the Governement didn't realize at the time it would effect not only the homosexuals but the hetrosexuals as well. The AIDS debate why homosexuals shouldn't be homosexuals is a thing of the past. Did that make sense?

So, you are saying that our government gave the virus to the homosexuals?

The Government had both hands in HIV/AIDS. The Government has their hands in a lot of things..HIV/AIDS was created 25 plus yrs ago, homosexuals have been around since the dusk of dawn. Now, AIDS is/was considered a gay disease. If it was not man made, aids would have existed long before it's time. Many of the disease are man made..therefor they were created to wipe out a certain group or to lower the population... You don't have to believe it..

The Aids virus origins has been traced back to African monkeys.......maybe thats the group the government was aiming for.
