Yes I am depressed.

Well, I went to a psychiatrist today to tell her that my prozac has pooped out and guess what she told me? I'm depressed!! Well , duh! She did give me a different anti depressant which is what I wanted. I just hope it works.
For 40 years we have lived with the diagnoses of my now deceased mom that she was schizophrenic and in less that 30 min this dr changed her diagnoses from schizophrenia to manic depressive. I am impressed with how intelligent these people are. I just didn't know what to make of that.

I don't really trust the diagnoses of someone that hasn't even talked too a person and yet they know whats wrong with them. My husbands job had a psychologist diagnose my husband as someone who couldn't handle problem solving and he didn't talk to my husband just based his diagnosis on a few questions on a piece of paper. He definitely doesn't know my husband he doesn't like problems of course but he does like finding ways to solve them. He is usually one of the people at work that other people turn too, to solve problems. But that psycologists diagnosis could keep my husband from getting promotions.

I think they are trained to diagnose too fast and too negatively.

I told a psychiatrist my hubby is the first one to get places in traffic. He said oh he drives radically. WELL NO, he knows how to position himself in traffic to get places and not be stopped in traffic tangles. He learned how to drive in LA. You have to know how to get somewhere when you live there. To me that is a positive not a negative.

OH PLEASE!!! He does not get any tickets or cut anyone off. He is a good driver, not an idiot. OK?????

Perhaps they are right. They see the extremes all the time and can spot things faster. Bugle , I wish and pray for you the best.

Not slamming you, but i don't feel that way. i went to one years ago.
And they just want to put you on pills and get you out of the office as quick as possible. I don't feel they really listen either!
My cousin was addicted to pain meds etc and was depressed and was going to a shrink and they put her on 3 more meds and she overdosed 2 weeks ago and died!! Why in the world would you put a addict on more pills

I know a person who was suffering from anxiety attacks and went to her primary family doctor. She wasn't available but her associate was. This associate looked at her record and stated that she was bipolar ..................... because people from Italian backgrounds are highly prone to being bipolar! She looked at him as if he was nuts and told him that she wouldn't judge all Chinese doctors as idiots just because he was one! Needless to say she changed doctors.

unfortunatly psychiatrists and pyscholgists are the most screwed up people. They are just book smart enough to realize they are screwed up and decided to make money finding out why. As i have friends that are both they all agree with me on this. You will find most on heavy meds themselves and have no clue what is up and really don't care

Have you gotten a second opinion? I seen a Psychiatrist yrs ago and he had me on 5 different meds from anxiety, depression, and bi-polar. I was a freaking zombie for months!! I finally told him I WAS NOT taking all those drugs. We actually had a screaming match in his office...lol
Needless to say, I seen a different one and am now just fine. I am on just one anti depressent a day now and couldnt feel better.
