Yes, a first class envelope has to be a certain thickness before you can use DC (just a the thickest part of the envie, not the whole envie). It will usually be thick enough if you throw a packing peanut (styrofoam) or two into the envelope. I have wrapped gift cards in bubble wrap, and mailed them in a regular envelope, to make them thick enough for DC. Luckily, the styrofoam or bubble wrap don't add much weight to the package.

Re: the darn post office
They have to be 3/4 of an inch thick to get dc on them. But then you have made them heavier, so does that change the actual cost of mailing them?

Yes the postage goes by the weight of the package/envelope. But if you put in bubble wrap (especially the kind with big bubbles) it would hardly add to the weight of the package.

You can ship anything with paypal using this link
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now
It might up your shipping to the next level, but using a packing peanut or even a piece of the foam that your electronics are packed in doesn't add much.
