Re: Shame on you Mel Gibson
Wow, I sure didn't know that.
I guess that could explain then why he said it, because if you grow up being told something by your parents, they you will probably believe it too. Just like my mom and dad always told me everyone was equal. And my parents never ever made racial slurs against anyone. I feel I was lucky in that aspect. Especially when I see things like this.

Re: Shame on you Mel Gibson
Just a little more info on booze as a truth serum.
Another of the most common truth serums is ethyl alcohol, the same agent that is found in alcoholic beverages. As a truth serum, it is usually injected in a nearly pure form, but its effects are indistinguishable from those caused by consuming large amounts of alcohol orally. If you've ever been intoxicated, then you are personally familiar with the effects that truth serum has on the mind and body.
While a drunk person may be more likely to confess their secrets, they are not incapable of lying, nor will they necessarily share any information that is asked of them. All of these truth serums work in the same manner: They depress the central nervous system and interfere with judgment and higher cognitive function. A person in such a state tends to regurgitate a cocktail of information which is a blend of facts and fantasy, with many details exaggerated or omitted. In a word, unreliable.

Re: Shame on you Mel Gibson
"A breath test indicated Gibson's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, Whitmore said. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent. "
I personally dont put that amount with "consuming large amounts of alcohol."
Just my opinion though
Alot of people make mistakes, But being in the business he is, I think one could consider it career suicide. I know this wont stop me from watching another movie of his though some people may decide otherwise.

They said on CNN just now that he was going to check himself into rehab.

naw, it won't stop me from watching his stuff. Mainly because he did apologize. God says we are suppose to forgive. And Mel did apologize for it, and who can't say they haven't said something stupid at least once or twice in their lives that they wished they hadn't of said..

I was always taught God teaches us to forgive. Some of the most religious people I know are the first to throw stones. Because he is a well known person , his face and remarks will be plastered every where. We can all stumble. And sometimes more than once.

Re: Shame on you Mel Gibson
Generally, the lying part comes in from trying to stay out of trouble or to puff yourself up or make yourself look good. Something like this, though, is indicative of how he really feels.
I'm glad he apologized, but that still doesn't make it right. I was raised with an ex-stepfather who was a racist, that certainly didn't make me one. Quite the opposite as a matter of fact.

I happen to agree that I don't generally think of this amount constituting falling down "out-of-control" drunk. So that makes his statements NOT the raving drunk ramblings of a man that lost control of himself. But then what is it? Just enough booze to loosen his tongue and say what he really feels? Or?

Re: Shame on you Mel Gibson
My husband asked me what did getting pulled over for drivng drunk have to do with the Jewish people anyway. Why rant about them they didn't have anything to do with the situation. They said he also made comments about the female cops breasts. That makes me think he was pretty drunk or he wouldn't have acted like that. But don't get me wrong I used to like his movies. I liked the ones he played with Danny Glover but I haven't seen any lately I liked.

Re: Shame on you Mel Gibson
Where? When? I never heard anything that SOUNDED sincere. All I've seen is a TYPED statement from him that's been read by newspeople. Haven't seen/heard him apologizing. It's easy to type an apology, it's totally another to actually have the guts to do it in person.
