Terminal patients are not given morphone for pain... at this stage (as she is, and it is typically cancer patients) they are generally OVERdosed on morphine to help them pass faster (cause cancer patients usually are in pain), but it's not a good reason for Terri... except everyone thinks starving is cruel and painful (even tho it's been said several times that she would never know... so I don't know.)

If you overdose someone on morphine you are killing them. Plain and simpe. It is murder. This is something our society had not yet come to so it is not allowed and anyone caught doing it will be arrested and jailed.
The right to death people would have it be this way but most people still want to leave it up to God as to when we die. Too much oppertunity to abuse this kind of system.

My mother has been a nurse for almost 30 years and, believe it or not, it happens all the time. Sometimes it is the most humane way to allow a person to pass on.

My Living Will states, "Regardless of any choices I have made in this form, I direct that the best medical care possible to keep me clean, comfortable & free of pain be provided at all times so that my dignity is maintained, even if this care hastens my death."
So I agree with the reasons they do this. If I had my way, I'd ask that they just overdose me and be done with it, but they can't purposely do that.
I also have a Medical Power of Atty form, giving power to make these decisions to my boyfriend, as long as they don't conflict with the provisions made in my Living Will. That way my parents & other family will have no say in how or what is done.

I'm glad its almost over for her, poor thing. I was watching the videos on her website to save her and they just convinced me more that she doesn't have any quality of life. I'm glad they are letting her pass peacefully. I think it would be better if they could dose her up and let her pass now.

I dont understand why her family did this to her, she had very clearily stated she did not want to be kept in a vegetative state, her husband told the Drs that, her parents overruled it. Her parents did this to her

IMHO, this is all happening because her parents want control of her trust fund. I know that sounds cold, but I've done a lot of reading on this case and I can see no other reason. Right now as I'm typing, thousands of people are being given morphine to ease their passage, pain or not. It is what we do to allow people to pass with dignity and comfort. Because it would be considered illegal by some folks lack knowledge about the mechanics of dying, we don't talk about it. We just do it with the knowledge that we are doing the right thing for those folks. We know that because we see people suffer and die every day. I can assure you, people are snowed out every day, and I hope someone does it for me when my time comes.

janelle... I realize you think you have all the answers... but you are wrong... terminal patients are gently overdosed on morphine EVERY day in this country... my mother was one of them... AND I am GRATEFUL for this act of KINDNESS... she suffered for 3 very long years in terrible pain and I am glad to know that because of the overdose that she passed quietly and peacefully in her sleep... as opposed to awake ... vommitting violently and having seizures... so ... unless you actually KNOW what you speak of, then perhaps you should do a little research before you start making false statements as facts.

I have to totally disagree with you on this one. I have been trying not to comment about this whole situation, but what the heck.
I feel what they are doing to her is a slow, cruel murder. This is my opinion. I feel her "so called" husband is a very cruel, and evil man. If he had any decency, he would divorce her, go on with his life with his gf,and their kids, and leave it up to her family, the people who really love her, to care for her. I do not think they are after her trust fund. They don't want to lose their child. I cannot imagine pulling the tube on my child if that ever happened to them. I couldn't, and wouldn't. If I was in that situation(Terri's) I would want everything done for me to help me live, and if my dh made the choice after a extended time, that I should die(he would make the decision, as I have no other family, but his)I would want to have as much morphine given to me as legally possible from the time the tube was pulled. You all know how terrible, and uncomfortable it feels to be real hungry, and dehydrated. Try a good day or 2 with the stomach flu, when you can't eat, or drink, it's torture. Imagine 10+ days of that. This weekend her husband showed his true colors again, by denying her communion, and last rites(I know he finally gave in, when the family decided to give up up on appeals, but otherwise he wouldn't have let her have it, it's all a power trip to him). I know he says "she wanted it" but it's all heresay to me. If it isn't in writing, then forget it. People can say anything they want, but a signed document means business. I feel so sorry for them all. Another thing I don't understand is, why they say half of her brain is gone? She went without oxygen, she didn't have a lobotomy. She is still alive, and I'm sure she feels pain. God Bless her soul, and her family.

Ppl keep saying he should divorce her... but as has already been stated on SEVERAL occasions... he CAN NOT divorce her... she would become a ward of the state and they would become responsible for her medical care/bills... if you want to be mad about this... don't blame the husband... blame the govenor who is criticizing but won't take over her bills for him.
