Unhappy My grandmother fell and broke her arm

My sister called me up yesterday morning to tell me grandma fell and they think she broke her arm, I get down there and yup she broke her right arm. The bone that goes from the sholder to the elbow {cant remember name of it right now** Anyways yesterday the dr didnt think it was going to need surgery, which is a good thing. This is the third time she has fallen in a week, She fell monday in the bathroom, weds in her room and then yesterday. The hospital kept her and are running lots of tests on her to see why she keeps falling.

I am waiting to hear how she is doing today, I am going to take dh down to the er tonight so he can get his arm/shoulder looked at {another post all in its own** and I am going to go up to her room then. I worry about her, she is 87 and since my mom passed she really doesnt want to be here anymore. She wants to go be with my mom

If you can spare a few prayers or anything please send them to my grandma.

Is your grandmother having problems with light headedness or dizziness? Is she on any type of medication that light headedness is one of the possible side effects? That could be why she's been falling.

I hope the doctors can give you some answers as to what is going on. Hopefully she's on the road to recovery with her broken arm (thank God she didn't break her hip). I'll remember her in my prayers.

It is dizziness, she said that it just hits her ya know, she doesnt have a chance to sit down or hang on to something. Just very quickly. They checked her meds and it isnt one of them. They did a catscan{sp** on her this morning and it came out good.

My sister said that while she was down there, my aunt was there also. They could not wake her up. They kept trying to but she wouldnt, the nurse came in with her lunch and she couldnt wake her up either. The nurse said that she was getting a little scared about it too. They got her to wake up a little enough for my aunt to help her eat a few bites and then went back to sleep. She didnt even want her piece of cake, and my grandmother loves her sweets. So for her to not want it is something in its self.

thank God she didn't break her hip).
That is what we were saying too, Like my aunt said it could be worse.

When my grandmother fell and broke her arm the doctor's diagnosed pin strokes. This might be something that is happening to your grandmother and she isn't even aware of it.

She will need a complete physical when she is ready. But you might want to think about being sure she isn't on her own alot.

Sounds like it might be time to consider that grandma might not be able to live on her own until they can diagnose what is causing her dizzy spells and treat it, can you keep us updated on how it is that she is doing and whether or not her arm is broken? ((HUGS))

Re: My grandmother fell and broke her arm

Just a little update about grandma, she did break her arm. Between the shoulder and the elbow {cant remember name of bone** it is a clean break so that is good. She isnt on her own, she cant be. She forgets so many things, like her meds and cooking things. It wouldnt be a good thing She has been living with my aunt now about 6 years. So my aunt has seen it all.

She has gotten to where she talks to people in the tv, she tells everyone she has a man in the tv that loves her and follows her around She sees people and things that arent there.
She is not going to be going home. She was transfered from the hospital to an extended care part of the hospital yesterday afternoon. I went to see her last night with my two younger kids last night and she had no idea who I was. I think she thought I was my mother. This was the first time she didnt know me My sister went to see her this morning, she didnt know her either. My aunt checked with the drs and the only meds they are giving her {other then her usuall** is tylonel for pain. We are hoping it is just being in a strange place and that when she gets more used to it all she will be a little better at remembering people.

My brother is going to see her tonight after he gets out of work, I told him she might not remember him. It is really hard on both my brother and me. Grandma pretty much raised my brother and she raised me from age 12 when I moved in with her. My brother is 7 years older then me, they were very close, it is hard on me but I cant imagine how he is feeling.

It has only been 4 months since my mom passed, and now this with my grandma. Needless to say it is very hard
