I'm sooo sick of the fine print....they can get away with freakin anything with it!!!
Is anyone else sick of the fine print in advertising?
I AM!
I just called for was high-speed internet through ComCast (which I found out is our old ATT Broadband who switched their name and now is calling themselves the "new company in your area" whatever, I hate big companies) that I saw on a commercial that it was introductory for $19.99 a month for 6 months. I did not see any fine print or restrictions on the ad on tv. Then I got a postcard that said $19.99 for 3 months. So, since I am looking for a deal on my internet, I called, they said, "Oh, no, you have to have cable tv and your own cable modem in order to get that rate, and plus the 6 month rate is not in your area, only the 3 months. Otherwise your rate is $42.95"
First, why in the world did I see the commercial on my TV (I only have free, local tv stations) if it's not in MY AREA!!
Second, I said to her, it says $19.99 on my postcard and it says nothing about having to have your cable tv as well. Her response, "Well, if you look at the fine print on the bottom of the card (which I already read) it says "restrictions may apply" and that covers this."
OMG!!! So, companies can advertise anything they want as long as they put on the bottom, "restrictions apply".
So I can advertise a car for $1.99 and really only sell it for $1.99 on a blue moon to a transvestite man who is 42 years old and has a thyroid disorder and a missing thumb on the right hand, as long as I put "restrictions apply???????"
What the hell!!! Something is sooooo wrong with that! They get people to sign up or just call and then they cover themselves with "restrictions apply". That is not right. I am not dumb, I check the fine print, after being burned a few times, but you just don't know what they are going to pull on you!!!
ARRRRR.
I would like to hear other people's stories about how this happened to them so that I can protect myself more, even though, like I said, they seem to keep reinventing new things to pull on people.

Oh yes, I agree and so hate that! With no notice my attbi switched to comcast and my monthly bill went from 48 to 55+ since I don't have comcast cable! There is a a new company finally laying cable for a new broadband but it will be months before that is complete and I can switch!

All I can tell you is to expect that stuff. Ask a ton of ?'s before accepting anything these days and get NAMES of anyone who tells you anything.

What I want to know is how the laws are that they can do this!!! Are they in cahoots with the lawmakers???

This is a Buyer Beware situation. Yes, there are going to be restrictions and you need to read the fine print. If the deal sounds too good then ask loads of questions.
You do need a cable modem and the whole point is to get you on to cable tv and all of their other extras. The more you buy, the cheaper it becomes.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

No, the transvestite has to be walking a 3 legged goat too!
Some mornings it's not worth the effort of chewing through the restraints.

Katzenberg,
Well, I'm glad that at least your ad was specific, I have reread mine about 12 times and it says nothing of the sort.....
But even so, this is just one more incident in a chain of this type of hook 'em in advertising....

Kid Rock WAVED at ME!!
I recently found out that Sam's Club can recieve an electronic payment and take up to 10 days to process it; enabling them to then charge you the $25 late payment fee no matter how early you made the payment. Needless to say; that credit account was cancelled IMMEDIATELTY upon learning this. Jerks!!
How do you tell a man is well-hung? You can barely slip your finger between his neck & the noose.
