    UPDATE: Baby Aaron

    I am sitting here in tears wondering what is wrong with my son. Ok, I already told about him being in the E.R couple weeks ago for a high temp, okay, we had to take him back to the E.R mother's day for a high temp again. and of-course they did more test, we had him at Kings Daughter's the first time and this time we took him to Belfonte Hospital, so they wanted to try and do a spinal tap on him, this time I wanted to stay in the room and they would not let me, anyways, they stuck him not once but two. But this time they was able to get fluid to test it, but it came back good, no menigittis, but it was awful, he was so sore, anyways, they tried to hook him up to IV's, and could not even get a iv in him, so they didnt even give him no antibotics, and told us to take him to the pediatrician in the morning. so we bring him home and we take him to the pediatrician the next morning. The pediatrician could not come up with any answers either, they didnt know what was causing the temperature to be high, anyways, we come home, his temp finally went back to normal,been a week without no high fever, he now is throwing up his formula, since last night, and he seems to stiffen his legs like he is in pain. I called his pediatrician and she told me to water down his formula, and give him pedialyte on his second feeding, and so on. ok, tried that he still threw up his formula, so he was able to hold down his pedialyte so I thought, then he started throwing up his pedialyte, so I called back and she said just watch for dry mouth, no tears, etc for dehydration, and to just give him couple drinks every half hour, and she would see us in the morning, does this make sense to anyone??? I just dont think it does, and why does my son seem to keep being so sick, he has enough to have to go through soon enough, and it just tears me up inside seeing him so sick and in so much pain.. any advice??? thanx for listening,

    I agree with Raven. It could be allergies to the formula and sometimes you need to search for another Doctor. I sure hope that your son begins to feel well soon. {{{{Katinky}}}}

    Just a thought my daughter kept having a hard time keeping down her formula was way underweight, the dr had put her on a formula with iron in it, this was 29 years ago the formula read on the label with added iron, (since then I understand they have cut down the amount but way back then it was just too much added iron in the formula)her system just could not take it and against my drs. advice I put her on one without iron and within 3 months she was up to normal weight and doing well. Also check the nipple on the bottle is the liquid coming out too fast. You might also try feeding smaller amounts and burping more. As for the temperature I would definitely keep after my pediatrician for help and if their not satisfactory switch drs. until you find one, my daughter had allergies which was always making her get infections and run a fever.
    Ignorance is bliss but the question is can we afford it?

    {{{{{KATinKY}}}} A mother knows best-sorry for the cliche, but it's true. Sometimes, we ourselves, have to play doctor. Make sure they listen to you and your concerns. You can always see another doctor too. I have been trying to email you, and it's bouncing

    Keep us posted.

    I'm so sorry to hear about your son. My littlest had trouble in the beginning with throwing up. It started as spit up and got to the point where he was vomiting almost every time he nursed. I had taken him to the doctors six times in three weeks and they couldn't locate the problem. Of course he never spit up while they were in the room either. He was five weeks old when we had him admitted to the hospital because he was still his birth weight. He was severly dehydrated and they poked him every where to try and get an i.v. in him. The doctrs did several ultra sounds of his belly and found he had a muscle wrapped around his intestines. They did surgey the next day so he needed to be on the i.v. fluids over night. That was the worst two and a half hour of my life. Handing my baby over and not knowing what was going on with him was very hard and hurt. He's a big healthy rebelious two year old now. I sure hope they get your baby's problem figured out soon so he doesn't have to suffer with all the poking and proding. Give the little guy a hug from us.

    Please pm or email me if you need to talk.

    Katinky....I don't know what it is, but I went through this EXACT same thing with Anthony. We ended up with several ER visits the first months due to fevers and such. They never did find a cause...maybe it has something to do with the cleft...who knows. As for the stiffening up...have they given him colic drops? If not, check into it. Also, he also sounds like he's built up an allergy to his formula. I went through that with my DD. We had to give her pedialyte only for 48 hrs before we could switch formula.
    Anyway, don't push the panic button yet. I've been where you are and we made it through (a few grey hairs later )

    Has your doctor tested him for Strep throat? Also, if he's under 8 weeks and it's not just "spitting up" with his formula or if he's not keeping any fluids down and always seems hungry it could be a malfunction in his stomach. I could have been holding my son on one side of my bed and he'd throw up and hit the wall on the other side, it was called projectile vomiting and had to have surgery to fix his tiny little tummy.

    My kids have had fevers for no explainable reason. When my oldest was 17 days old, he was hospitalized for a fever - they also did the spinal tap which turned out negative. They kept him three days on IVs. Charted as an unknown virus. All three of them have had fevers when they weren't "sick" - no symptoms except a high fever.

    Does your son have a rash anywhere on his body? Is his abdomen soft or hard? Some info on fevers that I have found very helpful:http://my.webmd.com/content/article/...tselectedguid={5FE84E90-BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348}

    Also, he may be starting an allergy to lactose. Try him on a soy formula and see if that helps and as some of the other moms have also said - try one with lower iron. I breastfed my oldest two and then I breastfed my youngest until he was three months old and I had to take meds that weren't safe for breastmilk - but I supplement fed all three and they couldn't tolerate the iron formulas - spit up everything.
