doesn't anyone care if duplicate scans paid for by medicare???
I am very concerned about something. My husband had a cat scan of the abdomen, chest and pelvis on the 21st of May. This was ordered by the oncologist looking for cancer. Thankfully it came back, couldn't find anything.
Now he has a cat scan of the spine ordered by the neurosurgeon, scheduled for tomorrow. I called the office to see if they could use the same one and if not would the insurance pay for this one since they did for the last one. I don't want to get a huge bill! The neurosurgeons nurse could not have been less interested. She didn't say , what was the other scan of. Instead she said what kind of insurance does he have. I told her medicare and our other and she said oh if he has medicare , it will pay for it. Either way I'm concerned. Of course I don't want to pay for one but also, I don't want medicare to pay for a second one if the first one can be used. Thinking about it, probably scan of spine would not be included in the other scans but her lack of interest really bothered me.

My grandma has medicare and when she transferred Dsr none of them take previous test results no matter how current. If it is the SAME test and it is recent they should not be allowed to repeat it

When my husband went to the hospital they did an EKG and six hours later they admitted him to ICU and did another one. I've always wondered why they don't get the results from the emergency room one. And he had an ultra sound a few days before he went in the hospital and they did another one in the hospital. They say its because they're looking for something different and so they have to have a new one done. Medicare paid for it but I believe thats why healthcare is so high. They did the same thing to me when I went to the ER and then was admitted to the hospital. They did a cat scan and then turned around and did another one the next day. Plus another EKG too the next day. It seems like the results wouldn't be that different in less than a day.

It's not the same test. I would wager your hubby had to drink a radioactive cocktail before the CT Scan. This highlights the abdominal features so your spinal column isn't really seen as well.
Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

I wondered about that. I'm glad to know it isn't the same exact test.

I don't know about your husband's tests but we all know the public has been scammed for years by Medicare---that's the government for you. They take over and the system goes to hell.
Medicare is set up so no one understands it so they pay numerous times for the same thing and/or for nothing at all. The whole system is rotten from the head down. Then our dear government comes in to "FIX' it and it will be even worse.
You can't see your bill or if you do you can't understand it. Most people just throw their hands up and say, "Oh well the government is paying for it anyway, I won't worry about it." NOOOOO, the taxpayers are paying for it and it raises our meds and doc bills so high we can't afford to go to the doctor.
When someone like you is concerned and asks about it everyone you ask is unconcerned so we can't do anything. It's only going to get worse.
