Is this the new thing for bridal showers?

I went to a bridal shower yesterday. They had a table set up with jewelry on it. Later they handed out books to look through to order jewelry. Then had 2 games that had the jewelry included in it. To me this was tacky and made the shower less enjoyable. It actually got boring and not only to me but the people I was sitting with. The bride to be wasn't the one selling, I guess it was a friend of the bride to be.
Is this something they do now at showers make it a combo thing?

Eww....yes, if I want to buy Tupperware or such, I'll have a Tupperware party......a bridal shower should be all about the expected bride and the marriage.....'games' should be orchestrated about them, not selling your wares.

Were the proceeds from the jewelry sale going towards the new couple in some way? Down payment for a house, something expensive ect?

Its kind of tacky but new age.

No, the proceeds as far as I know weren't going to the couple. I think maybe the bride might have gotten a piece of jewelry but I'm not even sure about that.

Very tacky and I can see where it would have taken the enjoyment out of it for the guests. Guests go to have fun and celebrate with the bride to be not be put on the spot to buy something from someone.

Thanks everyone, I was just wondering if it was me and the people that I was sitting with that thought it was tacky, or if it was the way they are doing it now.

Never heard of it, but I think it's tacky as well.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.
~When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure~
