any young denture wearing ppl on here?
I officially became the youngest denture wearer in my family tuesday (im 36 years old)... Im excited to get rid of my old teeth that were brittle and decayed and not very good to start off with, but im curious, is loosing some feeling in the chin area normal?
How do you get used to these immediate dentures? ( I get my final ones in 6 months), I fear ill never eat again with these things now, its hard to even eat apiece of banana because i cant open my jaw correctly.
between not eating and having to give up smoking so suddenly im on nerve. Anyone have any solutions to help me cope with all these changes?

Depends on what you consider young. LOL Dh is 45 and has had his for 4 years. It is rough for about the first 4-6 months. He was on a pretty soft diet for a while. He can now eat almost anything he wants.

I got mine when I was 30. I can eat anything with them except almonds. They do take some getting used to though. It took me about 5 months to really get the hang of eating the tough things like nuts and steaks.
I eat a LOT better when they are out so I only put mine in when I am leaving the house.

I got mine upper ones when I was 35. I honestly didn't have a problem with them. I didn't have to go back for refitting and I've never had to use any kind of adhesive gunk to keep them in place. I have the implants now and am going to get them on the bottom as soon as i can afford them.

Believe me... you'll eat. I still don't even have my dentures (we had the money to get my teeth out but not the new ones) and I can eat pretty much anything you put in front of me. Good luck! I can't wait til I get my new teeth!

my father had them at age 35. I remember he went a full 6 months with no teeth at all. The dentist recommended that he did not get any teeth until his gums had healed and the swelling went down. By the time he got his teeth his gums were tough because he had been eating (as best he could) for that time without them. His teeth fit him perfectly when he got them and he never had to use anything.

hey
Thanks for all your input guys...I have had my temp ones for a little over a week now and im still puzzled as to how to chew with them. Im trying to eat Ramen now but its really hard to open my mouth...and i think im getting sores on the back jaw n cheek on the right side...everything sure burns when it touches that side. at this point I fear ill never get the hang of this....i have them glued in right now too (using fixodent) because the pressure on my gums is just to much to bear right now if I try to eat without them glued in.....am i having to develop some scar tissue on my gums or something? I get my stiches taken out tomorrow thank goodness... I have 1 loop on the left side that has come out n i can feel where they tied off on the right side (towards where im having the burning sensations) i dont know
i hope all is ok n works out but i think my frustrations arre going to get the best of me before that happens.

I hope to get the implant ones at a later time also, but that will have to wait quite a few years.

You'll definitely start feeling better when those stitches come out! As for the fixodent.. they just did a story on the news where they pulled polident off the shelves and won't be making it any more and they are encouraging the makers of fixodent to do it too because of the zinc and the damage it can cause... before using it any more, you should research it and see if you still think it's ok for you to use. Back to the eating... It took a good month before I ate anything that needed to actually be chewed. The first time hurt like hell, I remember thinking I'd never eat again... but it only took a couple of days and I was doing it w/ no problem. Now I can eat pretty much anything except nuts and raw veggies (my favorite things in the world)... I hope when I get my teeth I will be able to adjust to them!

i would take those temporary teeth out and let my gums heal if I were you. Don't eat hard stuff, just eat things like mashed potatoes and meat loaf.
