Yep. I've been on it since I was diagnosed with celiac in 2001. One of my kids is on it as well. There are lots of good websites with gluten free menus and tips. When I was first diagnosed, I met with a nutritionist that my insurance paid for. I now work with the patients in my practice who need to live GF. There are many things with hidden gluten from lipsticks to chicken broth, lol. I have it down to a science after 8 years. I order my GF breads from Sami's in Tampa. GF bread sucks and their's tastes good. Tinkyada has the best pasta and Kinnikinnick has good stuff. I order from Sami's and Kinnikinnick regularly.

There's a lot involved and it would serve you best to speak to a nutrtionist. I can give you resources.

I belong to this online support group that gives you a lot of info and can answer a ton of questions for a newbie to the GF lifestyle

Do you have celiac disease? if you do, you have to stick to it otherwise your antibodies will attack your intestines and eventually destroy parts. the incidence of non-compliancy to the GF diet increases intestinal lymphomas by over 200%. That in itself made me complient. People can't do a gf part time. It's a life time commitment.

I don't but my son does. He was diagnosed with celiac disease at a year old in 1995. I had never heard of gluten free before then. I have found the hardest is the hidden gluten. You will learn to read every ingredient label very carefully. If you have a Whole Foods they have a nice selection of GF foods. We drive a few hours several times a year to get to our closest one. My son says their chocolate chip cookies are the best. I know Meijers and Walmart sell a limited amount there. We buy a lot of our products here. http://www.glutenfree.com/home.aspx If it is something he goes through a lot of then I buy it by the case at Amazon if they sell it because it is much cheaper there. My DH makes his bread in a bread machine using Gluten-Free Pantry - Favorite Sandwich Bread. He also makes his pizza crust from it. My son loves chicken and pork breaded and fried in potato buds. Eating out can be a challenge too especially if the restaurant doesn't have a gluten free menu. If you look on fast food websites most show their gluten free foods. I know Outback and Ruby Tuesday do. Look where it says allergen information. Good luck! It will take some getting used to but you can do it.

Forgot to add...let your pharmacist know that you can't ingest gluten. Many pharmaceutical companies use gluten based products as binders for their pills. Some aspirin contains gluten as well.

That is so true. The doctor at the Cleveland Clinic stressed to me that even if my son becomes asymptomatic that he still has to stay gluten free because even though he wouldn't feel the pain his intestines would still be being damaged from eating gluten. I have been so careful because I never want my son to get cancer because I didn't keep him gluten free. We already have a family history of colon cancer which only adds to my fear.

They didn't say I have it. I have infections that wont heal and the doctor thinks eating a gluten free diet may help me heal. At least thats what she said. And for some reason she wants me to boil a quater cup of water and sqeeze half a lemon juice in it and put the lemon peel in it and drink it once a day. I don't know what thats for but I hope it helps me heal finally.

I don't eat a gluten free diet, but work at Outback, and we actually have an extensive gluten free menu. I wait on many people who have celiacs or eat a gluten free diet. You have to be extremely careful .. something as simple as a crumb of a crouton in your salad (if the salad guy doesn't change his glove) can make you very sick.

I think my doctor is trying to clean my system out and get rid of inflamation in my body. Somethings wrong with my body and shes experimenting trying different things. I'm supposed to go to a wound care place and see if they can help.
