Unforntunately, it doesnt fit me as a 2 strand. It is too tight. It was meant for a really skinny necked person, or it is a choker, lol, and I dont do chokers. My DD would love to have it, but she is not mature enough to care for it. Garnet is her birthstone.

you should take that to a real jeweler who deals in estate and antique jewelry, not the McJewelers like Zales.

have you ever been to shopgoodwill.com ? they have some pretty neat things there that are up for auction and bidding.
I love going to the goodwill, when I go in to the big city LOL (tulsa), which is like 35-40 miles away. I loooove finding treasures. That is a beautiful necklace, and only a buck!!

Yes I have, but the thing is, they usually know what they have. My local goodwill for some reason never realises what they are pricing unless it comes salvage from a store.

I have picked up quite a few treasures there for $1. You wouldnt believe some of the junk I have seen there priced for high amounts, yet my little treausres are usually only $1. I have seen junky enamel jewelry(with rust) going for as much as $10.

I also have gotten some really awesome silver jewelry. It isnt worth as much as the gold by any means, but they are some really cool pieces, and I enjoy trying to find info about them. i really enjoy getting the foreign ones. I am wearing a neat looking Polish silver link bracelet right now. It has the mark for Warsaw on it but is post 1963, so it is more modern.

My DH loves my goodwill finds because he doesnt have to pay outrageous prices to keep me happy in jewelry (I love collecting it) and occassionally, he benefits when I cash some of it in I wont wear. I was able to take him on a trip back home to see his mom just by cashing in some of the gold I found on my trips. I have probably spent about $50 on the pieces I didnt keep, and cashed in for well over $1000.

With my job I travel to different towns and everytime I see a goodwill, I stop to see what treasures I might find. LOL, after seeing Antiques Roadshow the other night, he wants me to start looking for paintings too.

You and my sister share the same hobby.I would hold on to that piece, and look up when and where your next nearest gem and jewelry show is coming.
It has been a couple of years since I have been to one, but you could let some of the vendors that deal in the antique/estate jewelry look at it. Some will do un-official appraisals that would give you an idea at least. If you are not comfortable with that, you should at least be able to get some names of reliable appraisers.

I'd save it for a special birthday to give it to her when she is old enough.
