Someone on here(maybe dbackfan?-if not sorry)quit by reading this book "The easy way to quit smoking"by Allen Carr.the reviews on amazon are great!I did read the book(probably would have done better if I actually owned rather than borrowing it)I myself didn't quit yet but I did quit for at least 24 hrs(I suck though).I think if you buy the book, keep re-reading it,and really want to this book will help out.

ETA:Thanks everyone for letting me know "I stink".lol

Sorry babe.... I still love you though

Also, my mother quit October last year using Chantix (sp?)

She tried hypnosis and that didn't work.

I tried cold turkey and gave in after a week. I used a device called life sign to stop smoking. You smoke normally for a week and every time you smoke you push a button on this device. When the week is up it beeps to let you know when to smoke. As time goes by the cigarettes get further and further apart.
But you have to be able to smoke for it to work. It didn't work for my husband or sis in law because they worked and couldn't just go smoke when it told them to. My sis in law finally used Zyban I guess it is called and that helped her to stop.
My hubby stopped cold turkey for a couple of months and went back to smoking. My daughter tried that chantix and it didn't work the best for her. She ended up stopping cold turkey.
I stopped smoking like 16 years ago, the device is now called quitkey.
http://www.quitkey.com/ it is also on Amazon about 5.00 cheaper.

Several years ago my husband had a triple bypass. I just KNEW he would be quitting and knowing that I was on the front porch having a cig, I felt was too much for him, so I quit cold turkey. I had been wanting to want to quit for years but I guess I didn't have the right motivation. Nearly 7 years later, I am smoke-free and my husband is struggling with trying to quit. He took Chantix for awhile, which helped immensely but his insurance company let us know that this year they would not be covered by ins and they are expensive!! Instead they recommended patches and the like.

Here the man was smoke-free (at the time), nicotine-free and they want him to start using nicotine patches. How stupid is that?

Good luck quitting and staying quit. Whenever I feel an urge to smoke I remind myself how absolutely nasty and disgusting smoking is. Yuck........my hair, my clothes, my breath, my home.....all stunk to high heaven.

I really wish you the best. Perhaps exchanging this habit for something else........anything else, will be the answer. It doesn't always have to be something you put in your mouth, although gum has helped my husband a great deal. Knit, write, visit, bowl, read..anything else. I've heard of support groups. Or just set up one online and have others who are trying to quit, post on it.

My Dh did wellbutrin (zyban). He hasnt touched a cig in 5 years. He smoked for 25.

I took about a year for his lungs to totally clear out from years of abuse, but he is much healthier for it, and can actually walk long distances without getting out of breath.
