    Have a ? about gold jewelry...help please

I have been looking at a necklace in an antiques store. They only want $10 for it, but I don't know. It's really heavy, and is gold colored. My ?? is, how do you know if it's real gold or gold plated? I've looked all over the back of it and there is not a single mark on it to indicate if it is 14k or 18k or just plated. Can someone tell me how to tell if it's real gold or not? thanks

Take a very large magnet and hold it next to the necklace, if it sticks to the magnet it is NOT real gold. This is how they tested the jewelry at my gold buying party. HTH.

If its old it may not be marked, but you can have it tested at a jewelry store. My guess would be for $10 its plated at most. But maybe its real and they don't know it.

My MIL bought a ring a long time ago for $500 and it appraised at $5800. There were no markings on it at all. but it ended up being 18kt white gold and a half c diamond......What a find!
