    Question Food question

Does anyone know any good recipes for high calorie liquid drinks. My DH is on an all liquid diet and so far I cannot seem to get anything liquid enough. His jaw is wired shut so it has to be super smooth and filling. Thanks!!!

I had already thought of that. I wondered how you were going to get the calories in him. Peanut butter is a good protein, also high in calories. Try adding that to almost anything he likes. You could use milk and peanut butter in a blender and get nearly 800 or more calories. Also you could make a type of eggnog or egg custard and blend it up for him to drink. I imagine you could even blend up cookies with milk but the calories may be more empty calories than you want. Good luck. Avocada is high in calories if you could find something to blend that with that he would like. There are also some healthy fats and oils that you could add a little of to a drink.

Spirutein has a good high protein drinks that taste pretty good and are filling. I'm not sure of the calorie count, but I know they make for a good breakfast, so I would think they'd be good as an all around meal replacement while he can't eat regular food

have you tried carnation instant breakfast drinks? that I think would be good for him and maybe you can make milkshakes or even smoothies with them that would make them good and most likely filling.

I am gonna get some of that carnation today. Its not that he's picky but just plain ole grumpy and irritable. I suggest some things and I get attitude. I feel guilty for eating in front of him,lol..oh well.

Thanks for all your suggestions and help

I would suggest three things: carnation instant breakfast drinks, ensure plus protein, and boost, plus there is protein powders..my son uses all three of these..he sometimes won't eat and has been diagnosed as "failure to thrive" so the doctor placed him on these things for the calories and protein. You can pretty make liquids outta any food with enough water or broth and a food processor. Here is a website that I found that might be of benefit to you: http://liquiddiet.net/

Friend had his jaw wired shut after a car accident and lived on Boost. I don't think you could make anything from scratch with all the nutrients. His was wired shut for a quite awhile.

Sure ya can, we sometimes have to puree our son's food in the processor so he is able to eat because he doesn't chew very well. It can be done, I do it daily...

When I was real sick in the hospital one time, a friend would bring me shakes made with Ensure and ice cream. It might be something for him to look forward to... a little treat.
