Has anyone here ever had a company fly you to their state to be interviewed for a job?
My husband is a shader(me makes color that matches a swat of cloth that will be used for furniture coverage),he was laid off in March and has been out of work since then. His company that laid him off called him and said another company was looking for a shader in Connecticut(we're from SC).
Anyway, they are flying us to CT on Nov.7th and back on the 8th. We will be touring the plant and spending the night at a very nice hotel. They have already told me what the pay will be and it doulbles plus more what he made here. The said they would pay for relocation fees and put us up for 6 monthes to give us time to find a place.
Has anyone ever done this before and did you get the job? I'm almost sure he will get it but I'm still scared. Thanks for anyhelp,Stacie

yes, when the plant that my hubby worked for closed (5 years ago) another company wanted him to come down for a job so they paid for all the travelling expenses - (plane tickets - hotel & rental car) - he was flying down to Atlanta and we are in New York - needless to say he didn't take the job, he found one in Syracuse - but the company paid for everything - quite a nice weekend vacation tho - lol

Yep, I did that for a Chef job with Marriott on in New york, it was very cool, I was really nervous, but man did I get pampered..I took that job and needed the relocation help, New York is ghastly expensive..good luck enjoy the whole experince, just think they are thinking OF HIM of all the pep's in the world they might have picked, they just wouldn't pay this for nothing, so really CONGRATS is a better thing to say!

Thanks so much. This is our first time flying also so I'm really nervous. And I really hope he gets the job. It will mean him living in CT and me here in SC for about a year and a half till my youngest daughter graduates high school, but then I'll be with him from that point on. Until then we will travel back and forth every 4 weeks or so to see each other. I really appreciate what you guys had to say. Thanks

First time flier?
OK, wear slide off shoes, you have to take them off at LEAST ONCE.
NO liquids, gels, this includes make up, so pack all that stuff..
NO bottled water, so drink what you have, you have to throw it and then if you had just bought some, buy some more inside the ticketing area
If you have a belt, and tie on shoes..please get those off before the last second, people can be pissy.
Laptops in Chicago and Minneapolis have to come out of the carriers, at least the last 3 timees I flew..and they go in seperate bins from shoes and purses
Have you ticket and ID ready..
These are just hints for a happier 'before you even get on a plane" suggestions.
Sometimes the lines go quick..other times LONG lines..so take care!
At last....my love has come around..

I used to be the one to set up these interviews when I was the on-location HR manager for a very large, global company. I'd do phone interviews of the top 10 candidates, narrow it down to 5 or 6, pass the resumes & interview notes around the office to the project managers and the office manager. They would vote for their top three candidates. Then I would contact the potential employees and make the travel & hotel arrangements. Then I scheduled the one-on-one interviews with the project managers and office manager. Once we selected the person we wanted to hire, we made a verbal offer of employment followed by a written offer with specific terms, start date, etc. If they accepted the job, I would then schedule their first day... starting with an hour with me (discussing benefits, policies, getting hiring paperwork completed), then about 2-3 hours with other members of the staff... then back to me to answer any questions that came up. Then they would finally get to settle in to their new office.

We have never had to fly for a job interview but I wish you and your hubby luck.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

It sounds like a wonderful opportunity. Just remember that 'making twice as much' in CT in not the same as in SC. As for flying, think of it as an adventure. The views out the plane window are fantastic.
