Ok, I just want to say... it costs an absolute fortune to live in CT (I have fam there and they are dying to move here cause the cost of living is so high there). So make sure, even w/ the big raise, that it will be worth it to you to relocate!

Other than that, my cousin got flown from Florida to her home state of KS for an interview to be some kind of boss nurse (I don't know the actual title of her position)... it's not unheard of. Have fun, check out the town, look up the cost of housing. You'll probably have a blast!

Circuit advertisement Has anyone here ever had a company fly you to their state to be interviewed for a job?

I have looked up everything I can possibly think of about CT and the surrounding areas. I checked the price of rent for an apartment. Checked the price of groceries, traveling by bus or useing our on vehicle, It seems like we can handle it. I'm sure I'll be able to tell more about it when I get there.
I see most people have office jods, but his jod is gonna be in textiles. It's shading color and as they say, you can't just hire someone off the streets to do it,they have to be trained. He had this job here for 15 years before the company down-sized. The man they say he will be replacing is in very bad health. I don't think they will have many more interviewing for the job, but I could possibly be very wrong too. But they called here to this company and asked for a shader and they gave him my husbands name and number.
I love all this info you're giving me, it really helps, and thanks so much for the info about what to do and not do before flying. Thanks you guys, you are all a great help. Stacie

Im from ct and its really expensive to live there the sales tax is like 8.5% and if your or your hubby is a smoke cigarettes are expensive as well. the rents are not that cheap trust me when we lived there a 2 bedroom was $500 a month and that has doubled since then. where in CT will he be? my best friend of 30 years still lives there and their rent for a house is over $1300 a month NOT including utilities. crime rates are higher also there . if you can tell me where he will be I can find out the info for you most likely. I have other friends up there who also make like $18 an hr and they have told me thats not even enough to live up there. everything there is expensive. thats one of the reasons my parents moved us here to WV because my dad back in 1988 was making $14 an hr and we couldnt afford the rents and our bills and what not.and the more ritzy the area the higher the prices. and most places in ct if the rents are considered cheap theyre usually not in the nicest of areas. again let me know what area if you want and Im sure I can find some info about it.

Tracey, The job is in Norwich, I checked out some apartments there and they mostly run about $850 for what we need. We won't have any kids with us, my daughter will go to collage here in SC and my son is done with collage. I knew the sales tax was high, but how about car taxes and such? They company there said if we can't sale our house here within 6 monthes they will buy it themselves. That sounds great to me but it is paid for and we will probably keep this house in case we decide to come back sometime. We have all our family here so I'm sure we'll be here lots. Thanks, If You think of something else please let me know. Thanks again.

No I haven't been flown anywhere before, but I did have some big wigs from a huge company that hired me to design their website fly here to meet me and give me all the information, company magazines, co. photo's, etc.. and stuff that I would need to design their website.

So they flew here to hire me, does that count?

yeah Im trying to find out info from my friend but norwich is a nice area kind of ritzy but kind of on the historical side as well. I dont know how SC is with people(strangers) being friendly but I noticed when I left ct to come to wv people here in the south are a lot nicer than they are in ct Im not saying all ct people are rude but their nothing like the ones in the south. also coke and stuff like that is called soda there not pop or soda pop, and subs and hoagies are usually called grinders(especially the meatball ones) Im sure there are other things that are named or called by different things in CT than in SC but I cant think of any at the moment. I do know that the taxes on a car will depend on the make, model year and if its on the list of most carjacked vehicles in ct(yes they have a list) now as far as I know norwich doesnt have gangs and stuff like that but there are places in ct that does. also the beaches let me just say the water is brown its not blue or even close so thats one reason while I lived there i didnt go to the beach much. but CT is a very historical place and also has haunted places if youre interested in that kind of thing. they do have lots of public transportaion but the cab prices are killer and since youre from out of state before taking a cab make sure you know where you will be going because some will try to take advantage of that. the bus rates are fairly cheap and I also think they have amtrak there also so that might be cheaper than running the car all the time you will just have to check into that. because rush hour traffic on i-95 can be killer at times. which your hubby may or may not have to take.. but other than that its probably not too much different than SC with the beaches and stuff. but hope you can make it there but like I said I will find out what I can.

I was just flown to NYC this past week to do filiming for a website and some public service announcements, concerning MRSA. It was my first flight too. Cat was right, make sure all your liquids are under 3 oz (hand sanitizer, toothpaste, make up, hair spray, etc)each and in a plastic quart size zip lock bag. I wore slip on shoes, made it SO much easier. Laptops, blackberries, etc. had to be taken out of carry on baggage and declared separately. Flight was fun and relaxing. We used Midwest Airlines which I hear is one of the better ones. I had a kinda different looking luggage tag, and it made it a LOT easier to pick my luggage up off the baggage thingy....Have a lot of fun! Enjoy the pampering. We stayed in W hotels in NYC, and the pampering is so nice to relax from a stressful life. I hope you have a wonderful trip.
