    Question for diabetics

Is salmon something you can eat with diabetes? I really want some salmon patties lol! I thought about using crackers instead of the flour.

Salmon itself shouldn't be a problem. Read the side of the can and see how many carbs there are in a serving. Then read how many carbs are in the crackers.

When I was diagnosed I was told to keep each meal to about 35 carbs a meal. I try to stay around that and my sugars have been doing well.

I had them last night - I use the cracker crumbs that come in the canister. Just a note - as a diabetic you can eat anything - IN MODERATION. That is the tough part - moderation.

The salmon itself has zero carbs. And it's good for you. Just make it a light breading, and you should be fine.

As a type 2'er myself, it's hard to each much of anything but meat. Luckily, I a hard core carnivore. lol

Thanks for all the replies. I'm still trying to get used to all the things I can and can't eat. I went to the doctor yesterday and he wants me to try and change my diet, which I have been doing before I even found out I was diabetic. I have my next appointment in 4 weeks and he wants my levels down or I get to start taking a pill. So I'm trying really hard to eat right.

Don't forget adding cinnamon to your diet ! I am not diabetic, but, had some sugar readings of 140, so I chose to add the cinnamon myself. There is even a statement on the bottle that it may lower blood sugar.

If you want to also get the numbers down you should exercise. My Dr. told me when I was first diagnosed 20 yrs ago to get a good pair of walking shoes and wear them out. It does help alot. Good Luck. And be patient - diabetes is not a "one thing you do will fix it all" and what works for 1 person does not necessarily work for everyone. And as for the carbs - you Dr. should send you to a dietitian and they can set you up with a diet to follow and you will notice it is not like Adkins - it will have more carbs than some people think you should have but the carbs keep your blood glucose levels even so you don't have a lot of peaks (high readings) and valleys (low readings).

He gave me a number to call for a class but he also recommened seeing a dietician. I've tried calling and leaving my number but whoever is in charge of the classes hasn't called me back. I'm going to try again on Monday and if I can't get a hold of someone who does the classes then I am going to see about finding a dietician. He didn't give me the name of one just the class. He did say that I am going to have to experiment with foods and see which ones make my sugar go up. He also said that foods affect people differently.
