HELP! I have a snake in my house....
Ok I was at work when my daughter said she saw a snake in the kitchen drawer...her and her friend freaked so they called the 2 boys from across the srteet. They came over and tried catching it~at one point they had it by the end but it pulled out of their hand.I'm freaked! I dont have the money for one of those critter people..I need this thing out of my house.I have had a mouse problem in the past and I know I have to expect these things since I live near wooded areas and farms but seeing this snake would explin why I havent seen any mice in awhile.According to my daughter's friends' dad going by their description he said it seems to be a pine snake..a rat eater...eeeewwww if it eats rats it could eat my hand! or my cat??? Does anyone know anything about snakes ...better yet how to get rid of them??
The kids said it it crawled into a hole under the sink...which leads to under the house. So obviously I know I have to seal up that hole but not untill I'm sure he didnt come back into the house again...or worse yet bring his friends with him!!! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated..I'm kind of frantic right now!I sooo hate mice but I realize I hate snakes alot more!HELP!!!!!!!!

Re: HELP! I have a snake in my house....
do not panic rat snakes are not going to eat your cat (too big) and they tend to be quite gentle. put a pair of gloves on and quietly open the drawer and grab it GENTLY right behind the head. no way if you do that can it bite you. take it outside and let it loose. they are very good for eating rodents. if that scares you too much try a small towel cover the head and then grab it GENTLY behind the head. I have had tons of pet rat snakes and they are wonderful creatures.

and when you go to seal the hole use sos pads or steel wool packed in it, will keep rats out and snakes too

OK OK you have me thinking twice about smashing it with a very heavy object if I see it...which was my first thought. They just freak me out if they are in my house. They are amusing in a tank in someones home..MAYBE or in a zoo tank or something~just not in my house.Seriously forget my cat but I do have 2 white doves. Will this snake come out and go after them? or do they just go after mice..and rats? and do they staying hidden or will he venture out and explore my house if I cant catch him? as of right now we dont know where he is because he slithered out of the drawer when my daughters friend tried to catch him.He was last seen entering a small hole under my sink but I dont know if he came back out yet.If there is a funny part of this its that my daughter and her friend both thought my sons had placed a fake snake in the drawer to freak her out...that was untill it started slithering away..anyway Thanks everyone for your thoughts..I truly appreciate it

I hope you find the damn thing. I hate snakes. I don't think I could stay in the house knowing it had been there.

Look on the bright side .. he's helping with your mice problem!!
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.
