having a nervous breakdown
My daughter got her drivers license monday, her high school prom is tomorrow and she wants to drive my blazer to and from the prom. She has never driven a vehicle without me or hubby with her. the prom is only 10 miles from our house but I am totally worrying myself to death afraid something will happen to her. I know I am overly protective but, I need good vibes prayers or whatever to get me through this time in her life.I was afraid to get my license until I was 26 and I sure did not want her to do that. She has had alot of experience driving the drivers ed car and she has driven our blazer I am just being a psychotic parent I guess. I know some of you have already been through this with your children. I would appreciate any post to ease my mind i know I got to give her a chance but I guess she is always going to be my baby (only child).

Re: having a nervous breakdown
I know just how you feel. My youngest just started driving to school. The first day, I watched the clock all day, thinking if something had happened they would call. He came hope, and I could take a breath. I know it is hard, but we must let them grow up. Maybe you could have her call when she gets there, and call when she is leaving. Just think that God will watch over her, thats what I did. Let her know that you trust her, she will be fine. I will be thinking about you and her.

Re: having a nervous breakdown
I am not sure I would let my child do the 1st alone trip to a Prom. Its at night and so many kids today do crazy and weird things on Prom night. I am not saying your daughter is or would do it. theres a lot of pressure out there from other kids to do stupid things. I didnt let my son drive to the Prom I hired them a car to take them if not for my sanity but for their safety. Sorry this isnt what you wanted to hear. But its realiety around here.
All the protection I did for my son and to only have him killed in Iraq in a Helicopter...............

Re: having a nervous breakdown
My daughter is 24 and I still worry about her. She is on the road so much and everytime she takes a trip I "stress". You have to learn to "let go", but, I also agree with gobs. This same thought ran through my mind when I first read this post.
It is the Right of the People to Alter or Abolish Government

Re: having a nervous breakdown
Well...I was there the first of april.... I was a nervous wreck..I told my son all along..NO NO NO...and then an hour before the prom..I let him drive. I prayed that he would be ok..and too keep everyone miles away from him. His a good driver...but ..it's just life..you know!!! BUT he made it home ok..and i'm sure your daughter will too!!

Re: having a nervous breakdown
I know exactly how you feel. My daughter got her license in March and we let her drive to school some and her 13 yr old brother rides with her. I make them call me when they get there and when they are leaving school. Tonight is her prom also but we elected to not let her drive because she is staying for the after prom party and won't be coming home until around 3 or so and we didn't want her staying up all night and then driving home, hubby will be leaving in a couple hours to go get her. It is a very scary time in our lives, I just hope that we all make it through with some sanity.

Re: having a nervous breakdown
well I had gotten the gumption up to let her drive and the fuel pump went out on the blazer, she was mad but I cannot get it fixed until tomorrow. I appreciate all the post, its nice to know Im not a complete psycho just a nervous mom.I told her next year she can drive her own car for prom. She and a friend went and they had a good time eventhough I had to get someone else to take her to the prom. I will feel better about it next year anyway since she will be a lot more expereienced driver but I know I will still worry but I quess no matter how old she gets or what she does I will always worry.
