Re: what do these words mean to you?

My sister brought home a shoofly pie once when she went on vacation in Lancaster. It was good. My husband grew up around Hershey. I tried making a shoofly pie for him once. But it didn't taste the same as what I remember having when I was younger.

Sometimes it is hard to let go of a memory, especially if you remind yourself of it everyday.

Re: what do these words mean to you?

I live in Ohio and wait on a customer who moved here from Lancaster, PA .. her son used to work with us and said something about shoefly pie .. and I like what is that??? .. lol.

Well last week they brought me a whole shoefly pie in and let me tell you it's awesome! .. She said it's made out of molasses, cinnamon, brown sugar and I don't know what else .. but that was the main ingredients. I know she got it here in Ohio at some little shop .. am going to have to find out where .. it will be worth the drive to pick one up

And I know what everything else is on the list .. we live right next door to you .. so we say a lot of the same things .. and pop is pop here in Ohio .. lol .. when I lived in AZ it was soda .. my oldest calls it soda pop .. lol.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

Re: what do these words mean to you?

i have lived most of my life in ohio

hoagie= any sub but usualy onesw that actualy use hoagie buns

crick=some of the old timers or the rednecks will use this word but most people here say stream or creak but it's been used enough that every one knows the word

chipped ham= we call it "chip chopped" ham here, it's pretty much the staple deli meat here, may be because it is usualy cheap.

    sticky buns=we have these

shoofly pie=heard of it but never eaten it

pierogies= we have these, love perogies! make them home made they are so good...i mix potatoes and spinach and cover in alfreado sauce....or bacon and potato and cover in cheese...or just plain potato and fry with onions...i'm gettin hungry!

pocketbook= only my great grandma who is 93 says this, lol it's an old lady thing here

we lived in texas....had to get use to new lingo. you have to learn when some one says "do you want a coke?" you have to say "what do you got?" because if you just say yes you'll usualy get a dr. pepper,lol...they sure do love thier pepper down there and i can't stand the stuff

    fixin to..very popular there

coming from ohio i end almost every sentence in a preposition...like in stead of saying "where is it?" i say "where is it at?"

my granpa lives in florida and i did too when i was young...if you ask for a pop they always say "where you want me to pop you?"....they call it soda

Thanks! We (mom, dad and 6 brothers and sisters) came out here in "79 looking for work and everyone had a job within a week, so it was a good move.

Oh yeah, Pirates won the world series the year we got here. Lost the first 3 games in a row and won the last 4, against the Orioles. LOL That's about the only sports trivia I know.

Re: what do these words mean to you?

lassss, my hubby lived in Sinking Spring when he was little then his family moved up to Schuylkill County. It takes me 30-40 minutes to drive to where Target is going down Route 443 and then getting on what was known as the road to nowhere. If I want to go over to 5th Ave in the area of Sams Club it takes a little longer. I go over to Route 61 and go in that way.
How long does it take you to drive to Lancaster from where you are? I know several years ago we went to Lancaster for those Christian Plays they have there. Can't think of what the place is called and I think it took us like a hour and half to drive one way.

Right now it takes me almost an hour to drive from Sinky to Lanc because of the rt 222 road work going on both ways...I tried going 272 (Oregon Pike) but everyone else tries to avoid the traffic too lol so that is always backed up. I think you are referring to Sight and Sound Theater in Lanc. Sinky is not bad..it's small but houses are pretty affordable and the area is really coming up
