Need Networking Help for my PC and Laptop
I am trying to network my laptop and my pc together. I have a wireless router and a wireless adapter for me laptop. My adapter picks up my router signal, but It wont connect to the internet. This pc is hooked to the router as the main pc, so I dont know what I am doing wrong. On the other hand, sometimes my laptop picks up the neighbors wireless signal. I sometimes get it to pick up mine and the internet, but when I restart my laptop or pc, it wont pick up again.. I know this is very confusing. Can anyone help?
TIA
Denise

I recently got a laptop and networked it to my desktop pc. My problem was the laptop would only connect to web browsers. Any messenger service would only stay connected for a few minutes. Nothing would work, until I re-installed windows service pack 2. My first problem was the same as yours. Turns out the SSID for the router and wireless adapter were not named the same. I only found that out, after numerous calls to the router and adapter card tech support. So, I recommend you check to make sure both have the same name. Also, both must be set to the same channel. 6 is default. It was so frustrating to get mine set up properly. haha Now my brotehr wants me to add his desktop pc, so we shall see how that works out. I now know the basics, but I am nervous about inserting the card in his, as you must open the back. Good luck!

Try turning off both PC's and the router and the modem (providing you have and external modem). Leave router and modem unplugged for a few minutes, turn on router then modem then computers. Sometimes you just have to reset all of them.
Another thing to do is check your wireless setting and select your router if it showing yours and your neighbors.
Wireless is a wonderful thing when its not being quirlky! Wireless issues happen to the best of us. Ironically we noticed our company website was down and we had trouble all day with our wireless. To make matters worse I work for a place that does does sales, service contracts and maintance in addition to PC and laptops repairs. Hard to trouble shoot customers wireless issues when we were having some of our own.
Good luck to you!
