Marcia check out the Maytag glass top stoves. Easy to clean and no grease can get into your burners. The glass stays cool, the burners of course glow red. And the oven door doesn't heat up either, a real blessing in the summer. I think mine was about $400 at Best Buy. Lowe's and Home Depot also had good prices. Good luck and I'll be there for dinner Sunday

I love gas. I have electric, I hate it. On top of that I have one of those flat top type stoves and it is horrible to clean but looks pretty in a kitchen. You haveto have a special cleaner. If something boils over, which always happens after I clean it, well then you have to get out your "special cleaner" and cloth and scrub it clean. As soon as it breaks I am replacing it with the good ole gas kind. Honestly there are alot of people who have the flat top stoves and love them, I am just one that does not. Good Luck, I bet you are thrilled to get a new one.

Nana we must have been posting at the same time...lol.
My oven door doesn't get hot and my burners glow red when on, when they are truned off and they are still hot but there is a light letting you know the surface is hot.

Being born and raised in MI on gas, moving south was difficult to find everything electric. Very few places had gas. Finally got used to electric and now love it. I too am leary of gas now.

    Re: Electric or Gas???

I think most people that have had gas then goes to electric will not like electric. Takes getting used to. Gas heats faster and is hotter. I think going from gas to a glass top you will really hate. My husband says it like this. When you go from electric to glass top it is like going from gas to electric.
I have a glass top and I like it but it took me a while to get used to it. I got rid of my electric one because I was having problems with the burner coils on mine and they wouldn't make a good connection. It was less than a year old and still under warranty and had to have coils replaced. Once I let the warranty go it was going to cost me a small fortune to replace the plugs and the coils. I got a glass top to save on the cost of coils. I have had my glass top about a year and half now.

    Re: Electric or Gas???

Well at least you have used electric so you know what it is like. That's good.
Do you know anyone with a glass top that maybe you could go over and see how theirs works and check it out?
The first glass top I used was a corning one and it must have been from the 70's. Yes they made them back then but I don't guess they did to well.
That one I hated said I would never get a glass top. It was in someone elses home and I had to use it a few times. Over the years I guess they improved them greatly because I like my glass top where as the first one I used I hated. I guess about 30 years and the technology made a difference.
