I would find a cheap copy of a wedding etiquette book on half.com or ebay, send it media mail and tell them you hope they like their "gift". LOL.
There is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watching.

    A day without tears
    and without laughter....
    is a day wasted.

i am nothing special;of this i am sure. i am a common man with common thoughts; and i have led a common life. there are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but i've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has slways been enough--nicholas sparks

You know - my initial reaction was complete horror - to ask for gifts w/out an invitation or being close to them is appalling! But, I'm not sure if its the couple's fault. I know in that situation my mom would've probably sent announcements w/out my knowing or condoning it. I would just ignore it - the bride and groom probably have no idea of your relationship (or nonexistence of one) with the groom's mother.
    Bored? Looking for something fun?

Re: Just got in my mail...

The return address is the groom's parents, and I'm not sure, but I would bet the handwriting is the bride's. I know (of) the mom from church. I'll try to explain our connection: I guess you could say she is like the county commissioner (she is the president of a group at church), and I am like the secretary of a city councilman ( I have a support position in a sub-group). See how great the distance in the totem pole. But I wasn't sure at first if it was her because she's only been in that postion for about a month, and we've not met yet. In fact, I'm still not sure that it is really her, or if she is one of the counselors (like a VP).

I looked at the announcement again before I tossed it, and that girl looks just like Henry's little girlfriend in MASH. You know, the episode when he brought that little college cheerleader to the camp? Same smile too.
