Where do I get free "moving" boxes, hopefully about to move out...

Please cross your fingers for me everyone... I am hoping that I will get approved for a subsidized apartment & finally get away from a family member who has been terrorizing me since I was a child. If we do get approved, the lady will let us move in asap because I told her our situation. Anyway, I want to get ready so that we can leave as soon as possible, but do you guys have any ideas where I can get free moving boxes? I'm almost positive the stores in my area will charge a fortune, esp. since I'm in Calif. TIA & please pray for us that we will get this place!

Most grocery and liquor stores will save them for you if you ask.I know when I worked at Sally Beauty Supply we broke boxes down and put them in the dumpster behind the store. Dollar General stores(i've dumpster dived for boxes there before) does the same thing. I think most smaller businesses throw them out instead of using balers.

Maybe you can ask at some of those public storage places? I know people throw out boxes a lot there. I used to get boxes from work or my husband's job (he's in shipping).

Maybe you can think of other containers you can use or invest in apart from boxes (maybe some plastic crates/holders). After you move, you can keep them to store your items in.

    Good luck in your move.

go to your local Wendy's or Sonics. they put their cardboard boxes in a separate container from their trash and you can get as many as you need with no problem. Also check early in the a.m. with your local grocery. Most stock over night and wont have smashed them

I moved recently and got lots of boxes through work. However, we also went to Smart & Final. They had TONS of boxes and they were really sturdy ones!

    Good luck!

When I've moved, I've found the best boxes are behind the electronics stores and furniture stores.

Wal-mart stocks at night, when we are getting ready to move we go there later at night. talking like 11 or so at night. You can grab boxes before they tear them down.

We are going to have to start packing up soon, will prolly be moving sometime next month. I hate moving but I can not wait to get out of this house. I hate it
