    hey i have a ?

    this is mama's daughter,
    I have been thinking about doing the atkins diet but have no idea what is on the food list of what foods i can and cannot eat. can somebody please send a list of the foods that are good and bad?

    Ok here is what is going on........Im broke as a joke and she wants to start Atkins type(low carb) diet.We're grocery shopping Tues and wanna make a list of what she can have and cant have type of thing.

    We have gone to atkins threads(here on BBS and other sites) and looked thru but no one list what foods you can and cant have type of thing.Reading thru the BBS thread i see yes/no for potatoes ...so is it yes or no??

    I know you cut out sugar, breads and such........but i need to know besides lots of meat,veggies,salads....what else is allowed.....

    I am doing south beach, not atkins - I think atkins is a little stricter?? anyway, I am on a limited budget, too so here is my advice. Don't buy the special low and no carb food, they are VERY expensive. My first two weeks were no anything with white sugar or white flour. No fruit. No caffene. The good thing was you could have all you wanted of steak, chicken, cheese, eggs, so I was never hungry. I just bought the cheaper cuts of steak - a normal size round steak should be good for two or three meals. Two tips that really helped me- I was a pop freak, so it was really hard to give up. I bought kiwi strawberry flavored water at WalMart - it helped. And, some types of pork rinds have NO carbs - they do help as a snack. Good luck to her! I lost 12 pounds in the first two weeks.

    No taters are allowd on atkins. In the thread, you might have noticed fauxtatoes. It's really cauliflower lol. But, the cauliflower takes on the flavor of the foods around it, so once you cook it, drain it, then add the foods you usually add to potatoes...ie sour cream etc, it tastes very close to potatoes.

    Definitly stay away from the lowcarb foods. Not only are they major expensive, they are sabotagers deluxe. And like Turbob, I drink the flavored waters from walmart. They are great, and make it a LOT easier to get my water intake up for the day.

    You can also check over the atkins website. Definitly do the reading, and if possible get the book. Being very well informed, will help keep yourself healthy, plus will help you have answers once people start telling you how you are going to kill yourself on atkins.
