anyone have a child who wets the bed?

My son had a friend stay the night and he wet the bed. I didn't have a waterproof cover down and it soaked through to the mattress. I know this sounds stupid but how do I clean it up? I dabbed up as much as I could with a towle but there is alot. This is a really good mattress and I want to get up as much as I can. trying to be secretive about it as the child is still here and I don't want my two sons to know. Thanks.

Since this is not a problem for you, you can use vinegar....this will help TONS with removing both the smell as well as bacterial..If you have upholstry cleaner you can dilute it with some water and shop vac it up. I have a child who chronically wets the bed. I am sure that the parent knows, so if you are comfortable you can bring it up, OR, tell the parent to pack extra clothing or a pad or even their own sleeping bags.

OR, just suggest to the boys next time that they sleep on the floor. That way you are being discrete about it!

Do I just pour the vinegar on straight and the dab it up and does it matter if its white or cider vinegar? I have to wait for tonight to do this as the kids are all still here and I don't want to embarrass him. I figure its been there a few hours and is soaked in as much as its going to so no harm letting it go a few more hours. Thanks so much!!

    How old is this boy?

I also think you should let the mother know ........just in case maybe this isnt an ongoing thing so she can be aware....tell her discretely of course.

he is 8. His mom is aware and I'm sure he will tell her and I will too. She is a good friend and is a woman who never ever ask for help and has trouble taking it when offered. Her home had some storm/tornado damage the other day and she asked if her son could stay, said he hadn't wet in a long time. I don't want her to know it went through to the mattress.I had a small waterproff pad down but he slid off it. No big deal really as I don't want him or her to feel bad at all.

Use white vinegar, and if possible, sun dry the mattress.

I would suggest using the woolite or resolve spray foam as well, and vacuum it up after it dries.

I would dab it up the best you can then get put some lysol in some water and scrub at it. Dab up again the sit a fan over it to help it dry. I may take a while for it to dry.
My cat has peed on one of my beds and that is what I did except I used stuff for cat urine then used a disinfectant.

the vinegar is good and maybe even sprinkle baking soda & and i also thank you for trying your best-i had a bed wetter till about the age of 9 1/2-we never made a fuss just washed the sheets clean the mattress and went about our business -i had a couple of people tell me i should embarress the child i just look and said that suggestion doesn't even warrant a reply

I agree, it is very thoughtful of you. My daughter is 8 and wets the bed. I would hate to see her embarrassed. I have no ideas on the mattress for you, as she sleeps in good nights. I have a friend who uses bleach on her sons mattress, but I wouldn't do that myself.

my dd also sleeps in pull ups. and i pack her one when she goes to sleep over at her friend's house. her mom knows, but her friend does not. i pack a grocery bag in her bag to put in in the trash can and latter her mom empties the bathroom trash so that her friend never knows. she actually had a nose spray perscribed from her dr, and it did help, but it irritated her nose. there is a pill of the exact same brand, but our insurance would not pay for it, only the spray. go figure, huh?
