Yep...we had a Peke for 13 yrs. that we had to squeeze his anal glands regularly (yuck)..so far our Shi Tzu hasn't had a problem..yet....you usually can tell if they scatch or rub their bottom on the ground, kinda in a scooting motion and it can also have a terrible odor...

pumpkin mixed w/apple sauce? Just to cover up the pumpkin. If u get your dog groomed, check w/your groomer to see if they regularly do the anal gland. I know my groomer does ea time.

LOL..I wouldn't do it either hubby had that job, I wouldn't even be around because it stunk when he did it (he didn't want to pay the $8.00 to the groomer) ...it was gross, it seemed like we had to do it about every 4-6 weeks.. our Peke was really fussy about eating too, I would try the mineral oil next, maybe you can use a "baby medicine syringe (sp)" and squirt it in her mouth so she HAS to swallow it... good luck!!

P.S. I know they do it for there own protection (and your pets), but isn't it annoying how the vets can't give you ANY bit of info over the phone? It's always, "Nope, bring them in to see us." And then it costs you $35 just to hear, "give them <fill in the blank>", that you can go pick up from the grocery store. Really frustrating to me!
I think you should try that also this is what I was going to put.good luck

Re: OK my dog needs your help!

When my dog was impacted, she never did scoot(so this isn't always the case), she just quit going. The reason they get "constipated" is that it hurts them so bad when they are impacted, they refuse to go. In larger dogs, the glands usually drain when they go, sometimes, that doesn't always happen with the little guys (I read quite a few articles when my little sweetie had this problem).
Hope your baby feels better soon, and it is nothing too serious.
