I am stocking up on all the beef I can buy as the prices drop. I am not scared in the slightest of mad cow disease. IF and its a HUGE if there was infected meat then I have to die from somethiong don't I?
Seriously my family is not worried at all and we eat a lot of beef.
Eat your hot dog mightyman...you'll be fine..lol

The contaminated meat did come from one cow, and this meat was distributed to 8 states and one territory (Guam) The cow was purchased as part of a herd of 70 or so. And I think they're trying to trace down the rest of the herd.
Most cuts of beef come from muscle meat. "Mad cow" infects spinal and brain tissue in bovine. It's confined to this tissue. NOT muscle meat. There's been no instances of BSE found in muscle cuts of beef. ALTHOUGH, t-bone steaks sometimes have a bit of spinal cord attached. The United States banned the use of brain or spinal cord products years ago (this has been used in the past as additive for feed, to fatten the herds) Whether or not all cattle farmers do this, isn't know.
Organ meat is safe as far as I've heard. If you're hungry for liver or heart. Ground beef can be taken from ANY part of the cow. If you want to be safe, buy ground chuck or round, or buy a piece of meat and have it ground for you. Hotdogs are made from just about any by-products left laying around. Most use turkey, chicken etc., as filler now because it's much cheaper than all-beef weiners. To be safe, eat just turkey weiners.
I really don't think this is the time to panic - yet. But then again, I'm not a beef eater.

From what I've heard
with respect to the hot dogs, you get what you pay for. The web sites I've checked said to buy the higher end hot dogs to be safe. Hebrew National should be perfectly safe. But avoid T bone steaks! They are cut close to the area affected, and better be safe than sorry. Oh, and don't eat brains. Eww, does anybody really EAT the brains? Hmm, now that I think about it, my MIL would. Don't get me started...

I found this here:
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/sto...hl=en&ie=UTF-8
Your guide to beef
The safest? Beefsteaks, roasts and hamburger ground from labeled cuts.
What's riskier? Ground beef, hot dogs, taco meat and luncheon meats that are made from several sources of meat.
Why? Mad cow disease is found only in the brain and spinal cord. The U.S. Department of Agriculture requires any processed meat using those parts to be labeled as such, but there is no guarantee that it is happening.
