cancun is beautiful. I went three years ago.
We went to see the mayan ruins and watch people climb up the pyramid.
The water is so clear, we went to isla muera (sp) on a boat and I swear it looked like the bottom of the ocean was only a few feet down.
I got to swim with a shark. It was awesome. I still pull out that picture. Hubby REFUSED to do it.
Shopping is a hoot too. Its a bit intimidating having all these people wanting you to buy stuff but if you bicker with them you can get a lot of stuff cheap. The called hubby, senior mustache. by the end of the week all the people knew us by name.
We stayed at the Cancun palace since it was in the middle of the hotel zone and road buses to get to downtown. We didn't have problems with the water. The food takes getting used to but they have a wide variety and we used the all enclusive package so all our food and drinks were paid for and we were able to go to 5 different hotels and spend the day at each one. The pools were huge!! The staff were all so friendly and most spoke good english.
I would give anything to go back again. Hubby wants to take the jungle tour and the booze cruise if we go again.
My bil went 4th of july weekend and he's STILL talking about it.

Congrats on the win. Hope you have a wonderful time where ever you go and I hope the hurricanes stay away for ya!!

We also went to Isla Mujeras ( Island of the Women) and also did the jungle tour. You go on jet skis or small boats for 2 out through the jungle and then out snorkleing. I NEVER thought I would do it and probably won't again..lol FUN! We went on a dinner cruise that was great too. All inclusive is awesome but you miss some of the other culinary delights they have around. The busses are SCARY but cabs are expensive.

We went to Cancun and Cozumel five years ago, Cancun is real commercial, lots of people trying to scam you. Cozumel is really nice and wasn't as bad as Cancun. They are both real pretty, I would choose Cozumel though if I went again.

My advice would be if they offer you a free gift to attend a short meeting it is for timeshares and don't go, they will try to keep you all day. If you are sitting at your dinner table waiting for the check, have to ask and ask and then notice that there is someone going from table to table sitting down and talking to everyone it is for a timeshare, get up like you are going to leave, they will try to get you to wait - refuse otherwise you will sit there forever.
    Have a great day.

Buy the pure vanilla there,it's good stuff. What would cost $15 here, only costs $1 there! bring it back for Christmas gifts!
That's something I wish I would have done when I was there (Cancun)

BTW..How did you win this prize?

We stayed outside Punta de Mita, about 30-40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, right on the Bay of Bandaras. It was exceptionally nice because it was secluded, not dozens and dozens of condos and resorts on top of each other, it was an all-inclusive (which included unlimited alcoholic drinks) and there was an 'adult only' pool that hung on the side of the cliff, overlooking the beach and ocean. A short cab ride (or very interesting public bus ride) into Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta for shopping made it a little of everything. If you're interested, pm me and I'd be happy to email you some pictures of the area and resort.

Jaybird--you stayed at Viva Vallarta, didn't you? That's where we stayed!

We're going back next summer hopefully. Definitely back to Puerta Vallarta.

Yes I stayed at Viva Vallarta. Is that place not absolutely heaven on earth? Paradise! We went to Viva Fortuna this year in the Bahamas, but we're definitely going back to Viva Vallarta next year. I could LIVE there! I didn't know you went!!!
