LMAO. Republican, running for candidate for president. A real prize. We won't even go into it here, but I'll fill you in on him and his thoughts and theories later.

YIKES! Perhaps the news was wrong here yesterday. They said Republican hopeful. He's been hanging around here in STL, stirring up some already very volatile fires in the STL school district.
If he's a Democrat, HEYA Johnny, got a spare bedroom?

I'm the bleeding heart. Jolie's my 'republican' and I'm her 'bleeding heart.' And I have never taken offense to being called a bleeding heart. If I'm caring and passionate about what I believe it, label me. I'm also a peace-marching, make-love-not-war hippie. Bleeding heart liberal hippie bird!
(Jolie and I spar all the time like this, she was yanking my chain with the bleeding heart comment!)

Fireball - the "Bleeding Heart" is a joke between Jaybird & I. It is no more an insult between us as when she calls me "her only Republican friend." She knows I MEAN it to be a compliment, as she and I have many views in common and a few where we agree each side has valid issues. It was not directed at you and did not involve you and that is all I am going to say on that.
Now as to the other statements - he can make all the negative comments he wants and should expect negative feedback to go with it.
Depp said he had been using a metaphor that was taken "radically out of context," adding, "There was no anti-American sentiment."
so I will stand by my posted comments as previously stated.
Just because he is a celebrity does not mean he can say what ever he wants and everyone goes "OK
". If I make statments that others disagree with, I can expect to be called on it. (Like in this thread for example...) But it seems foolish to call the audience that pays your salary names and think there will be no response. "Biting the hand that feeds you..." I had more respect for him before he started ( or more accurately his publisist) started trying to make excuses.
We're free to criticize our government, thank goodness.
And I am fee to critize Mr. Depp.
J- as far as Mr. Sharpton is concerned - he is not a Republican or a Democrat; he is a POLITICION and goes where ever the political winds blow .... I don't think anyone wants to claim him. {He would run on a ticket with David Duke if he thought there was profit in it }

I feel as if it was pandering to the Anti American sentiments prevalent in Germany, which is where the interview was given.
In what "context" could this possiably be a positive statement ?
Maybe I am wrong but i don't remember anyone saying to was a postive statement, but that he had to right to make ANY statement he wanted..no matter where he was, or wether it was a "popular" statement.

refer to my above posts ...
Depp said he had been using a metaphor that was taken "radically out of context," adding, "There was no anti-American sentiment."
... and actors and other celebrities base their lifestyle on the fact and image of being "popular"
Imagine if I walked up to the person who signed my check and said "you act like a big puppy, very aggresive, not too smart, you are shallow and materialistic too"
Notice the tone of the interview with the German magazine as compared with the American papers (which is more of what I was refering to in the OP; Big Difference. Same with Maddonna - in a European interview she called American's obsessed with material things, shallow and crass. (despite the fact that has fueled her carreer and pays for her lifestyle ) The Dixie Chicks made a big stink in London, came home and apoligised, then went on to an interview in Australia where they said they never meant the "I'm Sorry's" and stood behind every word they origianally said ... until that hit the US papers - which started a new round of apoliges ...
If they were really commited to their "statements", they would not have to keep re-issueing them to suit the audience.
Oh, yeah ... they are just doing what is "popular" at the moment.

I didn't get the same meaning from that as you did. I think he's telling them to learn more about the US. I don't see anything in there that indicates he's telling them to take advantage of anything.
The statements he made may not be positive, but sadly they are the truth. America is still a young, immature country. Our government is out of touch and way out of control!
