I never shut down unless I am going out of town. I turn the monitor off at night. (Thats usually about 1 o'clock and my dh turns it back on about 5 o'clock) I have been told that starting up the computer is worse than leaving it on.

any time i don't plan on any one using it for a long while i completly shut down, or if there is a storm i even unplug it and the phone line, even though both are conected to surge protectors, just to be extra safe. if i dont turn it off it will automatically go into a stand by mode including the monitor to safe energy.

I used to leave the computer in my room on 24/7. I think that may be why it's so slow now and hardly works... poor thing never got a break to rest, and now he doesn't even want to turn on and load for me.
The laptop is easy to turn off. All I gotta do is shut the screen down and it hibernates and goes off.

I shut mine down completely. If I'm home all day and I turn it on in the morning I will leave it on most of the day but if I go out or go to bed then I shut it down completely.

I always shut down and unplug from the wall and the phone. I got zapped last spring by an unexpected storm in the middle of the night. Fried the tower and cost $100.00 to get it fixed and it still is slower than it used to be.
