    The Textile Industry

I used to work for textiles until I got laid off

for those that have worked in textiles or are familiar with it, you know Textiles is going down the tubes

Everything is being made from overseas

People that have worked 30 yrs etc are now or have lost their jobs etc

I saw this in the paper today

"Textile executives again called on the Bush administration Monday to impose trade treaty safeguards to protect their industry from a flood of inexpensive goods from China.

"We're here for one reason," Allen Gant, chief executive of Glen Raven Inc. in Burlington, told reporters. "We're worried about American jobs."

I used to work for Mr Gant. Part of me says Yes they might be worried about American jobs but are they really worried about their (head honchos) jobs & incoming money to them?

I don't know- the area where I live at was nothing but Textiles. That is all that people knew. Now plants have closed, some still struggling, people lossing their jobs, houses, etc.

It's sad. Does anyone here work or used to work in the textiles industry?

I now work for a construction company (office work) and even this business is slow. Some times it makes you wonder if you will have a job anywhere
