Poll: How did you guys get your kids to potty train?

THe reason I am asking is because I am soooo frustrated with my almost 4 year old boy! He refuses to go to the potty! So I was wondering what some of your techniques were

Potty didn't work for my kids. I hadta get one of those chairs that fit on the big potty. That worked.

To get him to pee in it, I put a little water in it, threw in some froot loops, and he used to aim at them. It worked! To doo poo, I sat him down with a book, and gave him fruit snacks while he sat there, and that seemed to work. Usually, when they are ready, they just adjust to the potty.

Good luck! Let us know what works for you!

I'm with ya on this one!!!

Been working on this off and on for a year! Finally got serious about the past week or two...NO CAVING ON MY PART!! No pullups cept for bed...even when he tells me "I pooped in my pants!" GRRRRR! He has 3 potty chairs and two seats to go on the big potty...only will use one of his potty chairs. I don't know if he's not "pushing" his willy all the way into the bowl or what...everytime there is a big ole wet spot on my floor! But he is trying, I guess. Outside now, he just pulls his pants down and says "I pee on the grass, mama". (at our house only...so far!!) He is 3 and a half. So tired of buying Pullups..only using them at nite now. I bet I ask 100 times a day..."ya gotta go potty??" LOL! Good luck....my mom says, Don't worry about it...no kid starts kindergarten in a diaper! LOL!
    Got a Scion? PM me!

I never used a potty chair. I used the seat that fit over the regular toilet & I put a small step stool so they could use it whenever they felt like they had to.
My both boys basically decided when they turned 2 that they no longer wanted to wear diapers. Took me less than a week for them to stop wearing diapers & wear trainning pants. We didn't have Pull-Ups back then.
I just made sure they sat on the toliet every 2 hours or so.

First 2 were girls...both I sat on the potty with cartoons on and a stack of books to look at....Rewarded them with m&m's. It was very easy to potty train them....both were potty trained at 1 year.

My son, same techniques (m&m's reward, crayons/color books, reading books) but used the Big Bear In The Blue House potty training video...played it back to back non stop. With boys it is really good to send them to the bathroom when daddy goes...they so want to be "like" daddy. My son (age 3 now) was potty trained at 2 and it is SO NICE!!! Also...I used only underwear during the day and pull-ups at night (for about the first 2 weeks)...after that is was underwear only and he has done wonderful. Oh, another thing, as soon as he woke up...straight to the bathroom. He always had to go pee first thing in the morning and felt great getting those early morning "woo! hoo! you did it!" cheers and m&m's Good Luck MOM!...You can do it!

I am still working on my 4 year old....he will go pee and will not poo poo in the potty....he has done it one time and hasn't done it again....I have tried rewarding him and taking things away when he does it in his underwear...now I am telling him that I will get him some Bob the builder or train underwear if he will poo poo in the potty but so far he is still doing it in his underwear....he only wears a pull up at night and underwear the rest of the time.....my oldest was fully trained and wearing underwear to bed when he was 2 and I am getting so frustrated at my youngest....I hope he is going potty by the time he starts school

Good luck with yours and let me know what works...I have tried everything....
Whatever you do today you'll have to sleep with tonight

DD was a breeze, her older cousins (twins) had underwear, and SHE wanted Barbie undies too....told her she had to go potty like a big girl....22 months and potty trained. DS # 1....I tried EVERYTHING....but he was ADHD, once he got on meds at 3 yrs and 11 months...took one day...did not want to mess in his Buzz Lightyear undies. DS # 2....tried EVERYTHING...nothing doing....my best friend took him for three days....don't know what she did....don't care....he came home completely trained.....NO MORE DIAPERS FOR ME!!!!! I wish you luck and patience....you may need both!

If Barbie is so popular, how come you have to buy all her friends????
