Nervous Granny....
My son and his family are leaving Monday for a 3 week visit to Korea as his Korean wife has not been back in almost 5 years and her family has never seen their children. Glad I'm not on that flight with 2 very active children.
I have 3 worries, 1. anti-american feelings over there. 2. SARS and 3. (the biggie) that she will decide to stay there with the kids. I over-heard the 5 yo telling his cousin he better be nice to him because he was going to Korea and not coming back. Told son and he laughed it off. All I know is that I'll be a lot happier when they get back.

(((hugs))) ill keep your family in my thoughts and prayers for their trip. hopefully everything will be ok
Every day I live I am more convinced that the waste of life lies in the love we have not given, the powers we have not used, the selfish prudence that will risk nothing and which, shirking pain, misses happiness as well.

My baby brother's wife is from Taiwan and spends a few months out of the year there. I don't think she would ever stay for good, even if they seperated because most of her family is here. She takes my nephew on the flight and does ok. SARS is a concern, but you can't let that worry you too much. Your grandchildren have a wonderful opportunity to learn about their cultural heritage I hope they have a great trip and that they come home safe to you soon!

DIL is the only one in her family in this country. She gets very lonely. Both kids are bi-lingual and Son & DIL have taught them about Korea. Son pulls things up on the internet for Wedge quite often as a 5 yo he is like a sponge wanting to absorb more

Vicki...of course you are worried. I didn't know this was happening. Is there any reason your DIL would stay in Korea, other than the obvious one of missing her family?
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

I wouldn't put too much importance in what kids say. You know kids. I bet he will be homesick by the time they are ready to come back. They are lucky to be able to speak two languages and know two cultures.
