2 drive by shootings in St. Louis this morning

One Dead in Drive By Shooting on I-55
    10/16/2002 9:14:29 AM

(KSDK) -- NewsChannel 5 is following a breaking story this morning. It appears there have been one or more shootings on area roadways. One is at Interstate 55 at Potomac. The other is at Broadway near Arsenal.

One person is confirmed dead following a drive-by shooting along southbound Interstate-55 between the Potomac and Gasconade exit ramps.

Investigators tell us the victim was southbound on I-55 just about 8:30 am when another vehicle opened fire--shooting through the windows of the victim’s car which then crashed into the concrete median.

There are two other victims in the area.

Their conditions are not clear at this point.

Police are investigating whether the shootings are connected. There are also reports of a shooting in the 3200 block of Broadway.

NewsChannel 5 has crews on the story, and we’ll continue to update you with new information as it becomes available.

I have been concerned for some time now that there would be 'copycat crimes' following the sniper in the DC area. I didn't expect it to be here.

i've been concerned about that too, or that the sniper is/was connected to a network that will hit other cities. The StLo article didn't include any vehicle info of the shooter. i wonder if that was deliberate? I'm sure they are looking for any connections.

did you hear one of the most recent DC victims was an FBI employee?

I heard the last victim worked for the FBI as an analyst, but I'm fairly sure that was coincidence. I'd hate to think that this creep is profiling his victims before he shoots them.

I haven't heard any more on the shootings here. Seems there has been THREE. All early this morning, during rush hour (that lasts from 6-9am or so)

Hopefully those were an isolated incident, they were all in a very close area and in a short time span.

    Drug deal gone bad?

    Fox2 News says:

MULTIPLE SHOOTINGS ON I-55; ONE FATAL

One man is dead and at least one other is injured when a drug deal goes bad with shots erupting along I-55 Wednesday morning. There have been multiple shootings on Southbound I-55 between Potomac and Gasconade. Southbound I-55 is currenltly shut down now and will be for some time as a police try to find the suspect and more evidence. At least two people have been injured and have been rushed to a nearby emergency room. Police and firefighters are on the scene.

I don't think it's copycat.. I believe it's gang related, or drug deal gone bad like you said.

Channel 2 is reporting that the individuals definitely knew each other, and that it was a drug-related shooting, apparently took someone into custody from the Motel 6 right off I-55 in South County. Channel 5 has only said that is is NOT a random shooting.
