We live in an AWESOME area, not too big, not too small... 50,000 in the city, 100,000 in the metro... You can buy a "fixer-upper" here for maybe $35,000 to $40,000, a super nice one or new one for $50,000 to $60,000 easy.

Here you would have to deal with low crime, trout fishing, whitewater, awesome mountains and state parks etc...

    Renting:
    Apartment -2bdrm, 2 bath unfurnished apt. from $425 - $800+
    Condos / townhouse - $575 - and up
homes: depends again on amenities anywhere from $250 - $900+
That is about what it is here. If you are in Ada County in Idaho, it will be over $100,000. But if you are in Canyon County, it would be anywhere from $60,000 on up.

$30-60,000 depending on town or country and condition. It's really cheaper to buy here than rent.

Same here...I'm in Burbank, California. Some areas of S. California would be cheaper.

You don't have to leave California. Everyone thinks it is so expensive to live here but that is just the bay area and LA area and their surrounding communities. There are beautiful homes in the central valley you can get cheap! Stay between Modesto and Bakersfield and you can find even new 3/2 homes for just over 100k and if you don't mind a older home there are many in the under 100k range. The smaller towns are cheaper. Just find a town that has great health care and close shopping. Try these towns on the internet and see what you find: Visalia, Tulare, Madera, Merced, Chowchilla, Porterville, Oildale. It is only a couple of hours drive into LA from the south valley towns.
