people used to be buried with bells in the coffins just in case they were buried alive.

it is not unheard of for exhumed graves to have nail marks where some poor soul was buried alive, came to, and tried to claw their way out.

once.....when my mom ran deliveries for florists.....she was in a very ethnic part of town. this was in the 60's mind you and she was already nervous about being young, female, and overly caucasian in a black/african american neighborhood (remember, times and attitudes were quite different then than they are now).

so she puts a piece on the corpse (he was dead, it was not this kind of mistake) and due to some neuological reaction.....the corpse rose to a full sitting position.

    mom promptly passed out.

The thought of this happening is giving me chills....eek... I think I want to be frozen. hehee... I think I would rather freeze to death than be burned alive and I hates small spaces, so I know being burried alive would be no picnic either...well, you know what I mean...

{{{{{{Gena}}}}}}}I have missed you so much How are you doing now??

My sisters mil told me about when her nephew was in a car wreck, they pronounced him dead and called his parents in to identify his body...He was in another state going to college....His parents went to the morgue to identify him and when they pulled him out in that drawer (he had been there for 2 days), his Mom said yea that was her son and started to walk away when she noticed a trickle of blood coming out of his ear...she pointed it out to tthe mortician and he looked and then he listened to his heart and there was a faint heartbeat....He stayed in a coma for 2 weeks but he lived to talk about it......Needless to say, he won a hefty amount of money in court and is still living today....

    Real scary ain't it?

This is why Elenore Roosevelt told her doctor to cut her wrists and drain her blood after she was pronounced dead. I guess blood will run after you die but she was terrified of being buried alive.

If you are bad enough to be pronounced dead I guess you dont mind having your blood drained even if you are still alive somewhat. They do embalm people so you will be dead when they plant you even if you aren't when they start the embalming.

I'm glad that mother saw her son was still alive. If he lived to recover he was really lucky. I do hope that is very, very rare.

I've always heard this story of grave robbers digging up a young woman who had just been buried that very day and trying to get the ring off her finger and then decided to cut it off and when they started to cut her finger she sat up screamed and they ran away, she walked home, her husband heard the sound of footsteps on the porch and told the children if he didn't know better he would think their dear mother was outside, they opened the door and she walked inside alive and well.

My dad, when he was about 16 worked in a funeral parloras a janitor. He told me that one nite he was working and one of the corpses sat straight up....he said that after he peed his pants he ran the 3 miles home in about 2-1/2 seconds flat. The next day the mortician tried to explain to him that due to nerves and muscles the body sometimes does that after death, and tried to get my dad to go back to work. My dad never set foot in a funeral parlor again. We would go to the cemetery, but never the parlor.
