    Bath School disaster

Location : Bath Township, Clinton County, Michigan, USA
    Date : May 18, 1927

Target : Bath Consolidated School, house, farm and wife

Attack type : School bombing, mass murder, murder-suicide, suicide truck bombing, arson, uxoricide

    Weapon(s) : Dynamite - Pyrotol - Firebombs - Club - Winchester Model 54 rifle

Deaths : 44 at the school (including the perpetrator) and perpetrator's wife (at home); 45 total
    Injured : 58

Motive : Revenge for defeat in local election - Personal and financial stress

The Bath School disaster is the historical name of the violent attacks perpetrated by Andrew Kehoe on May 18, 1927 in Bath Township, Michigan that killed 38 elementary school children and six adults, and injured at least 58 other people.[Note 1] Kehoe first killed his wife, fire-bombed his farm and set off a major explosion in the Bath Consolidated School, before committing suicide by detonating a final explosion in his truck. It is the deadliest mass murder in a school in United States history.[1] When the school opened, it had 236 students enrolled in grades 1-12.[4] All area landowners had to pay higher property taxes. At the time of the bombing, the village had about 300 residents.

Andrew Kehoe, the 55-year-old school board treasurer, was angry after his defeat in the spring 1926 election for township clerk. He was thought to have planned his "murderous revenge" after that public defeat and he had a reputation for difficulty on the school board and in personal dealings. In addition, in June 1926 he was notified that his mortgage was going to be foreclosed.[2] For much of the next year, a neighbor noticed Kehoe had stopped working on his farm and thought he might be planning suicide. During that period, Kehoe purchased explosives and discreetly planted them on his property and under the school.

Kehoe's wife was ill with tuberculosis, he had stopped making mortgage payments, and he was under pressure for foreclosure. Some time between May 16 and the morning of May 18, 1927, Kehoe murdered his wife by hitting her on the head with a blunt object. On the morning of May 18 at about 8:45 a.m., he set off various incendiary devices on his homestead that caused the house and other farm buildings to be destroyed by the explosives' blast and subsequent fires.

Almost simultaneously, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many schoolchildren. Kehoe had used a timed detonator to ignite hundreds of pounds of dynamite and incendiary pyrotol, which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers began working at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and used a rifle to detonate dynamite inside his shrapnel-filled truck, killing himself, the school superintendent, and several others nearby, as well as injuring more bystanders. During rescue efforts at the school, searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol connected to a timing device set to detonate at the same time as the first explosions; the material was hidden throughout the basement of the south wing. Kehoe had apparently intended to blow up and destroy the entire school.

    America Prepares to Disarm
    Posted on February 16 2013

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THE PRESIDENT’S OR DIANNE FEINSTEIN’S NEW GUN CONTROL SCHEMES WOULD HAVE PREVENTED NEWTOWN!!

Yet, the NRA has been the “fall guy” for the Obama administration. Let’s remember that it was the NRA who first proclaimed there should be armed guards in schools. The NRA was the first to openly urge using armed police protection in all schools. They stated: “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

NOW, it appears that the Newtown Board of Education agrees with the National Rifle Association’s pronouncement of armed guards in school. That’s right, Newtown, the epicenter of the current gun control debate, is going against the Obama administration’s urging school officials to use scissors!

Yes, the supposed “Gun Free Zones” is merely an “open invitation” to demented people who want to commit horrendous crimes. We must tell Congress to NOT support gun control legislation!

Last week, the Newton Board of Education voted to request the presence of armed guards inside their elementary schools. So far, it is merely a “request.” It needs to clear the budget and logistical hurdles, as far as allocating town resources. It is reported that there would be one armed and one unarmed guards at each school in Newtown. Technically, these guards are called school resource officers (SROs). They were immediately thrown into place following the killing of 20 children and six staff a couple of months ago. But, now the Board of Education wants it to become permanent!

While the Obama administration wants to take away gun rights, apparently, Newtown realizes how important guards with guns really are! What a “dilemma” for President Obama!!

The initial gun-grabbing frenzy that captivated the nation (and, by putting a crisis to work for him, President Obama and Senator Dianne Feinstein moved to promote their anti-gun agendas) has apparently backfired! The armed “good guys” can now truly protect innocent children, instead of letting criminals know it was oaky to come by putting up the signs, “Gun Free Zones.” The pipedream and myth of “gun free zones” is now being dispelled at the very heart where it all began.

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has always been a megaphone for gun-grabbers. She would prefer that all Americans turn in their guns to the government. Those innocent children who were brutally murdered by a deranged man happened to be in a state that ALREADY has some of the most stringent gun control laws in the entire country!

FACT: States where the gun control laws are few, where weapons are legally manufactured, legally carried and legally possessed have LOWER gun crimes!

The NRA came against Feinstein’s bill, which would ban 157 different types of semiautomatic weapons: “Senator Feinstein has been trying to ban guns from law-abiding citizens for decades. It’s disappointing but not surprising that she is once again focused on curtailing the Constitution instead of prosecuting criminals or fixing our broken mental health system,” said Andrew Arulanandam, a spokesman for Mr. LaPierre, NRA president.

U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) says it best: “The Second Amendment wasn’t written so you can go hunting, it was to create a force to balance a tyrannical force here.”

Senator Feinstein even wants to tax the American people $200 for each firearm that is grandfathered in. Her bill wants the firearm destroyed and forfeited when the owner dies, so much for the family heirlooms to be passed from one generation to another.

Many Democrats will soon be up for re-election. A majority of their constituencies are worried, just like you and me, about the constitutionality of the Feinstein legislation especially as it conflicts with the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.

In spite of public opinion, Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, the “murder capital of the world,” again wants to champion for the cause of gun control, as an Obama surrogate. He wants to put pressure on banks to halt their involvement with weapons manufacturers. How un-American is that?

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) referenced Rahm Emanuel when he urged: “The people that have stepped forward on this are the gun-grabbers. They are the anti-Second Amendment crowd. They are the opportunists that showed up the morning after the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook. So the president is following Rahm Emanuel’s directive. It’s a crisis that he doesn’t want to let go to waste.”

King demanded: “We have that Second Amendment to protect us from tyranny. As long as that restraint is there, we’re unlikely to see a tyrant take over this country

Mother Of Sandy Hook Victim Writes Powerful Letter To Teachers

By Wendy Reed September 10, 2013 12:57 PM

The mother of one of the 26 victims of last year’s Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre has written a powerful letter to the teachers of America. Nebla Marquez-Greenhad two children attending Sandy Hook Elementary that day. Her daughter, 6-year-old Ana Grace was killed in the massacre, her son was uninjured in the attack. Her letter, which was posted on the Education Week website is powerful, and gut-wrenching, and encouraging all in one.

As another school year begins and old routines settle back into place, I wanted to share my story in honor of the teachers everywhere who care for our children.

I lost my 6-year-old daughter Ana Grace on Dec. 14, 2012, in the rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School. My son, who was in the building and heard the shooting, survived.

While waiting in the firehouse that day to hear the official news that our daughter was dead, my husband and I made promises to ourselves, to each other, and to our son. We promised to face the future with courage, faith, and love.

As teachers and school employees begin this new year, my wish for you is that same courage, faith, and love.

It takes guts to be a teacher. Six brave women gave their lives trying to protect their students at Sandy Hook. Other teachers were forced to run from the building, stepping over the bodies of their friends and colleagues, and they came right back to work.

When I asked my son’s teacher why she returned, she responded, “Because they are my kids. And my students need me now more than ever.” She sent daily updates on my son’s progress, from his behavior to what he’d eaten for lunch. And four months later, when my son finally smiled one day after school, I asked him about it. His response? “Mom. My teacher is so funny. I had an epic day.”

While I pray you will never find yourself in the position of the teachers at Sandy Hook, your courage will support students like my son, who have lived through traumas no child should have to.

Your courage will support students who are left out and overlooked, like the isolated young man who killed my daughter. At some point he was a young, impressionable student, often sitting all alone at school. You will have kids facing long odds for whom your smile, your encouraging word, and your willingness to go the extra mile will provide the comfort and security they need to try again tomorrow.

When you Google “hero,” there should be a picture of a principal, a school lunch worker, a custodian, a reading specialist, a teacher, or a bus monitor. Real heroes don’t wear capes. They work in America’s schools.

Being courageous requires faith. It took faith to go back to work at Sandy Hook after the shooting. Nobody had the answers or knew what would come tomorrow, but they just kept going. Every opportunity you have to create welcoming environments in our schools where parents and students feel connected counts.

Have faith that your hard work is having a profound impact on your students. Of the 15,000 personal letters I received after the shooting, only one stays at my bedside. It’s from my high school English teacher, Robert Buckley.

But you can’t be courageous or step out on faith without a deep love for what you do.

Parents are sending their precious children to you this fall. Some will come fully prepared, and others not. They will come fed and with empty bellies. They will come from intact homes and fractured ones. Love them all.

When my son returned to school in January, I thought I was going to lose my mind. Imagine the difficulty in sending your surviving child into a classroom when you lost your baby in a school shooting. We sent him because we didn’t want him to be afraid.

We sent him because we wanted him to understand that while our lives would never be the same, our lives still needed to move forward.

According to the 2011-12 National Survey of Children’s Health, nearly half of America’s children will have suffered at least one childhood trauma before the age of 18. They need your love.

A few weeks before the shooting, Ana Grace and I shared a special morning. Lunches were packed and clothes were picked out the night before, so we had extra time to snuggle. And while I lay in bed with my beautiful caramel princess, she sensed that I was distracted and asked, “What’s the matter, Mom?” I remember saying to her, “Nothing, baby. It’s just work.” She looked at me for a very long time with a thoughtful stare, then she told me, “Don’t let them suck your fun circuits dry, Mom.”

As you begin this school year, remember Ana Grace. Walk with courage, with faith, and with love. And don’t let them suck your fun circuits dry.

By Liz Goodwin & Dylan Stableford 41 minutes ago

A summary report on the investigation into the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was released by the Connecticut state attorney Monday, shedding little new light on the shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children, on Dec. 14, 2012.

The 48-page report describes how 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza killed his mother at their Newtown home before heading to the school, fatally shooting 20 first-graders and six educators with an assault rifle. But it does not establish a motive for Lanza, who turned a gun on himself as police arrived.

Lanza, the report concluded, acted alone.

Lanza clearly had mental health issues, but prosecutors have no idea whether they contributed to his decision to take the lives of 20 children -- a decision they say was meticulously premeditated. And they do not know why he chose Sandy Hook Elementary School for his crime, except perhaps that it was close to his home.

As was revealed in warrants released in earlier this year, police uncovered a cache of weapons during its investigation:

    • A Bushmaster Model XM 15-E2S semi-automatic rifle, found in the same classroom as the shooter’s body.

    • A Glock 20, 10 mm semi-automatic pistol, which Lanza used to kill himself.

    • A Sig Sauer P226, 9 mm semi-automatic pistol found on Lanza.

    • A Izhmash Saiga-12, 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun found in the Lanza’s car in the parking lot outside the school" and which was secured in the vehicle’s trunk by police responding to the scene."

    • And a Savage Mark II rifle found at the Lanza home near the bed where Nanzy Lanza’s body mother was found.

All of the firearms were legally purchased by Nancy Lanza, the report said.

The report details Lanza's interests at length: including playing violent and non-violent video games, target shooting with his mother and building computers. One of his most time consuming hobbies was playing "Dance, Dance Revolution," which he played for four to ten hours at a local theater nearly every weekend.

Lanza's mother, Nancy Lanza, said the month before the shooting that her son would only communicate with her by email, even though they lived in the same house. She said he hadn't left in three months. “The purpose of the investigation was to determine what crimes had been committed and whether anyone will be prosecuted as a result of those crimes," Connecticut State Attorney Stephen Sedensky said. "Based on a painstaking investigation it is determined that there will be no arrests or prosecutions. The Connecticut State Police are to be commended for their tireless work on this investigation and their consideration of the families and victims involved."

Sedensky added: “With the release of this report today the investigation is closed, and no additional release of information or documents by this office is anticipated." A copy of the report was provided to Conn. Governor Dannel P. Malloy.

It's unclear when the Connecticut State Police's full report on the shooting -- several thousand pages long and containing more than 700 files included in its investigation -- will be released. The state's attorney said authorities are in the process of redacting sensitive information and are expecting to complete that process before the first anniversary of the shooting.

But the decision to withhold the full report from the public has stirred renewed criticism of the secrecy surrounding the investigation. Typically, the full evidence is released, not just a summary.

Sedensky has fought against the release of 911 tapes the morning of the shooting.

The Associated Press had requested that the 911 tapes be released under the Freedom of Information Act so the public can judge the police response to the killings. But Sedensky argued that the calls — which were "being made on the murder of children as it occurs" — are too gruesome for residents to bear.

"If the public never hears those cries for help during this process, they won't be harmed," Sedensky said in court last month.

Victor Perpetua, the lawyer for the state's Freedom of Information Commission, disagreed.

"Every time someone calls 911, there is a belief that there is a crime," Perpetua said. "That is part of the record, but to me the more important part of the record was what response did that person get? How was that information taken? What was the time period?

"I don't mean to say anything wrong happened," he continued. "I don't know one way or the other. At a certain point people start to ask, 'What is there to hide?' I'm saying the longer it's delayed, the more questions that are raised and that delays in providing access to this kind of record increases public insecurity about their police departments."

A judge had been expected issue a ruling on the release Monday, but postponed the decision, saying he needed to listen to the tapes himself.

The family of Vicki Soto, a teacher killed at the school, released a statement on Sunday ahead of the report's release.

"As we close in on the end of a very difficult year, the releasing of this report is yet another blow that our family has been dealt," the family's statement read. "While others search for the answer as to why this happened, we search for the how. How can we live without Vicki? How do we celebrate Christmas without Vicki? How do we go on every day missing a piece of our family? Those are the questions we seek the answers for. There is nothing in the report that will answer those for us."

And it took all this time to come to that conclusion ?

    ...

I agree with not releasing any further info. Nothing will be accomplished. We know what happened. A mentally ill person whose mother kept it as secret as possible, allowed him access to weapons, taught him how to shoot and let him play violent games for hours. Any surprise that this ended wrong? Releasing any info won't bring back the kids or teachers and would only serve to reopen wounds that hopefully are starting to heal. America's need for the gory details are not necessary hear.

    ..

One of his most time consuming hobbies was playing "Dance, Dance Revolution," which he played for four to ten hours at a local theater nearly every weekend
    DDR is "violent" ??

    ...

A mentally ill person would have no motive. Having a motive assumes that the person was living in reality and had some semblance of rational thought, well enough rational thought to have a motive anyway.

    ..

This "report" was prepared by Captain Obvious and his minions. The guy was a total whacko who needed serious help or institutionalization. I could have written the report after a couple of days' investigation.

    ..

How much $ was spent on this report?! Whackjob steals mother's gun, kills her, goes to school - a gun free zone with no opposition where he kills as many as possible, blows himself away. End of report.

    ..

They say he clearly had mental issues but don't know if his mental illness played a roll in the attack...Are you kidding us? He was a mental fruit loop and that is why he did it..We are in dire need of mental health facilities to house these threats to our society.

    ..

"Lanza clearly had mental health issues, but prosecutors have no idea whether they contributed to his decision to take the lives of 20 children"
    SERIOUSLY?

OFA ghouls organizing ‘Newtown anniversary events’

There is something seriously wrong with these people...

Organizing for Action is organizing "Newtown anniversary events"

    4:18 PM - 2 Dec 2013
Never mind how the families of Newtown, Conn., would prefer to observe the one-year anniversary of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary massacre. Organizing for Action is hijacking Dec. 14 to stage its own “remembrance events” across the nation.

In an email, OFA promises to give organizers “the resources you need to ensure your event is a powerful reminder of what we lost a year ago, and a reminder that we as a nation need to do more to prevent gun violence and keep our communities safe.” That certainly sounds more like a series of gun control rallies than a solemn remembrance, doesn’t it? If it doesn’t yet, check out the official event description from barackobama.com of the “day of action”:

It has been one year since the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, where 26 Americans lost their lives to gun violence. Despite overwhelming public support for expanding background checks for gun sales, Congress has failed to act. Join local supporters as we remember Newtown and ask Congress: What will it take to make our communities safer?
Yes, let's reopen that wound and rub salt in it...

Recordings of 911 calls from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting have been released to the media.
WBRZ and ABC have made editorial decisions not to air or post audio from the tapes.

Sandy Hook 911 calls released today. Some things don't make sense after listening to them.

I have been listening to them. There were not that many calls. I did not hear the one from the woman who said she was at the front office.

Call #3 is the first one from a Rick Thorne, he says there is shooting at the front glass. He says the front glass is all shot out and kept going on. He says the shooting is still happening. He says everything is in lock down. Says it is still going on and can't get to the front. Says he is not in the front but down the other part down a corridor, but close. But he also says he is no where near there and he only hears shooting/popping. He says his position with the school is simply acting custodian for the day. He says it is silent only after 2 minutes. He says he sees police outside and then he says shooting was still happening. You can hear police say they got someone in the woods in the background. He then says there is shooting again, after you can hear the police say they got someone and it had been silent.

How did he know the whole school is in lockdown if he was hiding and he said all the classroom doors were locked. Also how did he see the glass shot out if he was in another part of the school?

Call #5 saying at 1:37 a woman was shot in the foot in room #1. at 2:17 the woman is on the phone who was shot. They never ask her what her name is and she never says what it is. Yet every other call they ask who they are speaking to. She also says the classroom door is not locked.

Call 7 at the 2:46 point, Rick has to tell police there at the school there had been a shooting. How come he had to tell them if there the front glass was broken and I assume bodies were around? He says the shooting was 5 minutes ago in it. The police say there are 2 down in the background.

Call 6 is Rick again the temporary custodian 'for the day'. At the 1:37 mark he is back on the line. Listen to him say "It is at the Firehouse"

If you think about it, there were only 4, considering Rick is 3 of the recordings. Others were very fast ones I have not mentioned.

    $70,000 in Newtown donations missing

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A charity formed after the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School has been unable to account for more than $70,000 it raised through marathon running, one of its co-founders said Friday. Ryan Graney, of Nashville, Tenn., said only $30,000 of the $103,000 taken in by the 26.4.26 Foundation was used for the organization's purpose. That money was presented last January by co-founder Robbie Bruce to the nonprofit NYA, a youth sports center in Newtown, where the December 2012 shooting occurred.

Graney said Bruce was in charge of the organization's finances but has cut off contact with her. Bruce didn't return repeated telephone messages from The Associated Press, including one left with his sister. Public records list Bruce's address as an apartment in a gated complex on the southern outskirts of Nashville. No one answered the door there Friday afternoon.

An online biography lists Bruce, an endurance athlete, as co-founder of Nashville-based X3 Endurance, a fitness training company, which had a link to the foundation on its website. But Eddie Ferrell, another co-founder of that company, said it ended its relationship with Bruce almost a year ago and his whereabouts are unknown.

The idea behind the 26.4.26 Foundation was for runners to participate in marathons, raising money for each of the 26 miles they ran and dedicating each mile to one of the 26 victims of the school shooting — 20 children and six educators. The fundraising effort was featured in Runner's World magazine and was the subject of several local news stories. The group held its first marathon in Nashville a week after the shooting, with more than 1,000 participants. Another was held in New Hampshire last April. More than 1,400 runners raised about $22,000 for the foundation, organizers said. The charity also received donations from runners in other events, Graney said.

Graney said she noticed something was amiss last spring, when she discovered suspicious charges to the foundation's PayPal account. "I saw there was $1,200 billed for paddle boards," she said. "I went on (Bruce's) Instagram page, and he had posted a picture of a paddle board in the back of his truck."

Graney said she confronted Bruce and he promised to meet her and go over the organization's finances. She said he never showed up and then cut off contact with her in September. She said she filed complaints with the FBI and the Tennessee attorney general's office, which said they don't comment on ongoing investigations. Graney said the foundation, registered as a nonprofit corporation in Tennessee, had virtually no overhead or other expenses that would justify not giving the vast majority of the proceeds to the people of Newtown. "I am in tears, sick about this," Graney said by telephone Friday.

The attorney general's office in Connecticut, which has been keeping track of charities that sprang up after the shooting, said it had no knowledge of the foundation.

The NYA's executive director, Dorrie Carolan, said her organization "graciously accepted a check in the amount of $30,000, which cleared shortly after it was received."

Leigh Melia, who lives in Lebanon, 70 miles east of Newtown, ran 3 miles of the New Hampshire race as part of a relay team with a group of teachers and her then-7-year-old daughter. She said each mile was dedicated to a different Sandy Hook victim and she explained to her daughter who they were as they ran. "When I ran, I thought the money was going to those victims and their families," she said, adding she feels someone should be held accountable now that the money has gone missing.

Graney said her hope is publicizing the problem will help get the money to where it belongs. "If I knew what was going on, I would have stopped it sooner," she said. "I feel terrible. I couldn't sit by and let this happen."

*WARNING - DISTURBING - CONTENT* One year before the Sandy Hook massacre, the man responsible for the act called a college radio talk show to explain why a teenager might shoot up a shopping mall.
