No surprise: 2nd highest grossing political documentary of all time not nominated for an Oscar
    By Doug Powers • December 5, 2012 03:15 PM

Politically charged “Best Documentary” winners and nominees in the past few years have included Davis Guggenheim’s An Inconvenient Truth and Michael Moore’s Sicko (Moore did not submit Fahrenheit 9/11 for Academy consideration or it most certainly would have been nominated and probably would have won).

Dinesh D’Souza‘s 2016: Obama’s America is the 2nd highest grossing political documentary of all time http://www.mediaite.com/online/anti-...l-documentary/ (behind Fahrenheit) and was submitted for consideration, but predictably the Academy didn’t deem it to be worth a nod: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...mmakers-397855

Gerald Molen, the Oscar-winning producer of Schindler’s List, is claiming political bias because a documentary movie he produced this year isn’t up for an Oscar, even though that film, 2016: Obama’s America, made more money at the box office than the combined earning of the 15 films the Academy deemed eligible.

2016, a negative take on President Barack Obama co-written and directed by author Dinesh D’Souza, earned $33.4 million at the domestic box office. But its omission on the list of the 15 documentaries the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday would advance in the voting process makes it ineligible for an Oscar. “Dinesh warned me this might happen,” Molen said with a laugh Tuesday. “The action confirms my opinion that the bias against anything from a conservative point of view is dead on arrival in Hollywood circles. The film’s outstanding success means that America went to see the documentary in spite of how Hollywood feels about it.”
Groucho Marx once said “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member,” and that’s the attitude right-leaning filmmakers need to maintain when it comes to a lack of acceptance from Hollywood. Sometimes an absence of industry attention is the best indicator of success.

But it would have been fun to watch some lefty Hollywood presenter — maybe Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Longoria, George Clooney or anybody else from the $40k-a-plate club — stand before the audience, rip open the envelope containing the title of the Oscar-winning documentary, pause while offering a blank stare into the camera, and then say, “No way I’m reading this.”

In Michael Moore’s ‘America,’ Speaking Out Against The President Gets You a Visit from the Secret Service
    Jan. 21, 2014 10:00am - Gerald Molen

Just when I thought his behavior couldn’t be any stranger, I recently learned that far left zealot Michael Moore Tweeted out a request that the Secret Service investigate my writer/director Dinesh D’Souza for threatening the life of the President of the United States. Evidently Mr. Moore thinks referring to the President as “Trayvon Martin in the White House” is a crime. http://twitchy.com/2013/11/27/michae...-martin-tweet/

    Really.

I’m afraid that in the warped world in which Mr. Moore lives, dissent is only allowed for those who share his ideology.

Mr. D’Souza did in fact make such a statement in a Tweet that he immediately took down out of respect for Mr. Martin’s lovely mother, a deeply Christian woman who has acquitted herself with grace during her difficult time in the public sphere. But Moore’s over-the-top reaction once again shows us what liberals truly believe in their hearts about free speech and the power of the state to suppress it.

Actually, I was a bit surprised to hear that Mr. Moore had surfaced publicly again after I raised questions about the appropriateness of his serving on the documentary board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a position which gave him the power of helping to determine which films might be eligible for an Oscar nomination. Thankfully, the Academy recognized the mistake and rectified it, removing him from his post last fall, a move which I was grateful for and which might restore some semblance of balance to the nominating process. Now Mr. Moore is seeking further recognition doing what he does best: fomenting hatred in the media.

But it’s good to take opportunities like this to remind ourselves from time to time that this is still America, and to remember that men like D’Souza and Moore retain their constitutional rights to say what they want without fear of recrimination. Unlike Mr. Moore, both Dinesh and I pride ourselves on supporting all Americans and their right to speak out without fear of visits from the Secret Service.

I don’t Tweet, but I do write and here is my response to Mr. Moore:

We were proud that the American people made our last film “2016: Obama’s America“ the second most popular political documentary in the history of cinema, after your “movie” “Fahrenheit 911.” But we’re also looking forward to having the silent majority in this country come back to the box office on the 4th of July and lift our next movie “America“ to even greater heights, and who knows, maybe we’ll give your “film” a run for its money.

Unlike your “films” which are really propaganda pieces which give comfort to our enemies and seek to remind Americans about all that is wrong with their country, “AMERICA” will be a stirring reminder to all Americans, right, center and left, of what is good about America, and what we must do moving forward to be a great nation once again. As Dinesh says in the film, “to love our country, our country ought to be lovely.”

    This will be our quest.
See you at the box office.

“In light of the recent events and the way the IRS has been used to stifle dissent, this arrest should send shivers down the spines of all freedom-loving Americans”

Maker of Highly Successful Anti-Obama Documentary Indicted for Allegedly Violating U.S. Election Law
    Jan. 23, 2014 6:55pm Jason Howerton

NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — A conservative scholar and author known recently for his critical works on President Barack Obama has been indicted in New York on charges he violated campaign finance laws.

Federal prosecutors announced the charges Thursday against Dinesh D’Souza, who made the anti-Obama documentary “2016: Obama’s America.” They say he’ll be arraigned Friday on charges he directed $20,000 in illegal contributions to be made in the New York Senate race in 2012. The funds allegedly headed to the Wendy Long campaign, who unsuccessfully ran for Hillary Clinton’s U.S. Senate seat.

D’Souza found out he was being investigated by the feds in the mid-2013, months after his anti-Obama documentary earned roughly $33 million at the box office, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film went on to become the second most popular political documentary in U.S. history. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ws_now_ehayden

Prosecutors say the San Diego resident was charged with causing the illegal campaign contributions to be made and causing false statements to be made in connection with them. They say the criminal case resulted from a routine review by the FBI of campaign filings by various candidates after the Senate race. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ws_now_ehayden

A defense attorney says D’Souza didn’t act with any corrupt or criminal intent.

But Gerald Molen, a co-producer of “2016,” told THR that the charges are politically motivated.

Just days before the indictment, Molen penned an op-ed on TheBlaze titled, “In Michael Moore’s America, Speaking Out Against the President Gets You a Visit From the Secret Service.” http://www.theblaze.com/contribution...ecret-service/

In it, he argued that in the world of people like Michael Moore, “dissent is only allowed for those who share his ideology.” He bashed Moore for calling on the Secret Service to visit D’Souza for calling President Barack Obama as the “Trayvon Martin in the White House.”

The producer is now arguing that it’s obvious that D’Souza is being singled-out over an “an alleged minor violation.” He also connected what he believes to be political targeting in this case to the targeting done by the IRS.

“In America, we have a long tradition of not doing what is commonly done in too many other countries — criminalizing dissent through the selective enforcement of the law,” Molen told the Hollywood Reporter.

“In light of the recent events and the way the IRS has been used to stifle dissent, this arrest should send shivers down the spines of all freedom-loving Americans,” he later added.

9 Violent Criminals Who Paid Less for Bail Than ’2016′ Filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza

    Jan. 25, 2014 8:00am Jason Howerton

On Friday, conservative scholar Dinesh D’Souza pleaded not guilty to charges that he violated campaign finance laws. The filmmaker behind the anti-Obama documentary “2016: Obama’s America” was released on $500,000 bond, which some — even in the legal community — argue was excessive.

We looked into these claims and uncovered a number of violent and disturbing offenses that resulted in bail amounts less than D’Souza was required to put up. While it’s not a comprehensive list by any means, here are nine cases where violent suspects had to put up less for bail than D’Souza:

A former convict accused of robbing 4 people and raping one of them In 2007, a Chicago judge set bail for former convict Darnell Richmond at $400,000 on charges that he robbed or attempted to rob four people, raping one of them, just three months after he was released from prison, the Chicago Tribune reports.

That was after Richmond’s bail was increased from $150,000, when he was accused of only two counts of attempted robbery. He was later indicted for additional attempted robbery charges and sexual assault.

A man accused of trying to kill a police officer Bail for a man in Puna, Hawaii, accused of trying to murder a police officer was reset to $400,000 in December 2013 after several missing affidavits relating to the case were found.

When the probable-cause documents known as Riverside affidavits first went missing, a judge told prosecutors that suspect Joseph Feliciano’s bail would have to be reduced from $558,000 to $25,000. When the missing documents were located his bail was increased to $400,000.

A man accused of holding elderly men in a “dungeon”
In July of 2013, a Houston man accused of holding a group of elderly men captive in what was described as a “prison room” or “dungeon” was held in a Harris County jail in lieu of $400,000 bail.

Houston police arrived at suspect Walter Renard Jones’ house to find the prisoners living in “deplorable conditions.” Jones previously faced charges for marijuana possession, theft and failure to register as a sex offender.

A man accused of attempted murder In January of this year, police arrested Joseph Boyd, 28, who allegedly tried to gun down an unidentified victim in Camden, N.J. The man’s victim reportedly suffered wounds to his hand and hip.

He was booked at Camden County Jail in lieu of $400,000 bail, cash or bond.

A 42-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a teen In January 2014, 42-year-old Barry Eltman was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old family member, his bail was set at $450,000.

A man accused of raping his adult sister On Jan. 17, the Democrat-Herald reported that 46-year-old Timothy Wayne Maine was booked on charges of first-degree rape, incest, first-degree sexual abuse, coercion and attempted sodomy.

He was held on $450,000 bond.

A man who robbed a woman and then raped her twice behind a container In December of 2013, a judge in Cook County, Ill., set bail at $400,000 for a man accused of robbing a woman and then raping her twice behind a large container.

Devonte Willis, 30, was reportedly armed at the time of the alleged assault and asked the woman what she was willing to do to save her life.

A man accused of felony child abuse on his own newborn child Police in Smithfield, N.C., arrived at the home of Jon Michael Jones, 22, to find his newborn baby unconscious and not breathing. Officers were able to perform life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

In December 2013, Jones was arrested and charged with one count of intentional child abuse and inflicting serious injury. His bail was set at $400,000.

A man charged with multiple counts of rape On Wednesday, WHNT-TV reported Gaspar Perez-Bartolo, 26, of Russellville, Ala., was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl. New information obtained by police later led to two additional rape charges.

He was held at the Franklin County Detention Center on $350,000 bail.

Key Lawyer in DOJ Office Charging Dinesh D’Souza is Obama Campaign Donor
    by J. Christian Adams
    April 9th, 2014 - 8:21 pm

If you suspect that politics might have played a role in the Justice Department bringing charges against conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, consider the financial support to Barack Obama from a key DOJ lawyer in the U.S. Attorney’s office that filed the charges.

Each U.S. Attorney’s office has a lone District Election Officer (“DEO”). The DEO is the singular point person in each U.S. Attorney office for any matter related to an election or campaign finance. The U.S. Attorney’s office in the Southern District of New York is the office which brought the campaign finance charges against D’Souza.

David Kennedy is the designated District Election Officer in the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Southern District of New York. According to Federal Election Commission records, Kennedy is also a campaign contributor to Barack Obama as well as to John Kerry. Kennedy has also contributed to state campaigns, including New York Democrat Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz.

D’Souza’s case is called a “conduit” case. The Justice Department alleges that he provided funds to other people to contribute to a candidate for United States Senate, thereby avoiding the maximum contribution limits.

D’Souza’s film 2016 portrays Barack Obama as a product of a third world hostility toward Western colonialism and having an fierce aversion to American values of individual liberty, self-reliance and the rule of law. It is the 4th highest grossing documentary of all time.

Hans von Spakovsky, a former counsel to an Assistant Attorney General at DOJ who was responsible for election matters, described the central role of the DEO in any election matter which touches a U.S. Attorney’s office. “All election-related prosecutions go through the DEO in the offices of United States attorneys located across the country,” he said.

DEOs at the Justice Department received specific training on how to search public records and look for conduit cases. DEOs were trained by lawyers from the DOJ Public Integrity Section how to use public FEC files to look for data patterns and information which may betray a possible conduit case. David Kennedy has been the DEO for the Southern District of New York at least since 2010.

Not only is DEO Kennedy a Obama campaign contributor, he also has a reputation as a proud and vocal liberal, not afraid to boast about his ideological worldview.

One lawyer familiar with Kennedy at DOJ told me, “Kennedy did not try to hide his political views, and they were liberal.”

Kennedy also had a meddlesome reputation among election lawyers at DOJ’s Washington headquarters for imposing unconventional arrangements to micromanage election matters in Manhattan which were normally managed in Washington D.C.

Even if Kennedy is a financial supporter of President Obama and a proud loud liberal, there is nothing illegal about those donations and actions.

The Justice Department prohibits political involvement by employees in some DOJ components, but not District Election Officers even though electoral politics are central to the DEO job. “While there is no doubt that federal employees are entitled to make political donations, DEOs – who make decisions on the investigation and prosecution of election crimes – should not make such donations,” Von Spakovsky said. “Doing so inevitably compromises their credibility and will raise the appearance of bias and a conflict of interest in the eyes of the public.”

The DOJ does not replace DEOs who make contributions to candidates.

It becomes a secondary matter, if the primary matter is abuse of citizen rights to free speech and principled dissent are under government assault.

Unless one believes that a minuscule some of money donated to a losing cause for a friend in a minor campaign of no national significance...trumps the gang rape of the Constitution, tyranny, totalitarian thuggery and stealing of freedom and liberty.

Only a brain dead apologist for leftist abuse of power could possibly see it otherwise. However, feel free to advance the notion that retaliatory government is a fine thing. In fact, keep saying it all the way past 2016.

Because if the shoe is on the other foot in that year, I don't want to hear a peep out of you and your fellow travelers. YOU think government abuse, selective prosecution, and stealing freedom is just fine. Good.

    Your day is coming.

    ..

"Prepare now for what comes next."

If the Nevada ranch fiasco currently going down serves as any harbinger, we're in more trouble than we can imagine right now.

    ..

Providing heavy ordnance to Mexican drug cartels = No charges

Using the IRS to harass and punish dissidents = No charges

Accepting $50,000,000.00 + in "bundled" donations from hostile foreign governments = No charges

Contributing to a Republican senatorial campaign = Felony charges

The rule of law is dead. Prepare now for what comes next.

    ..

He allegedly gave Wendy Long two donations of $10,000.00 each under the names of two friends whom he repaid shortly afterward. Long and the two friends will be testifying against him.

    ..

Well, let's be generous: the truth is the truth no matter which side is buttering your bread. I'm sure the Civil Rights Division will be indicting Mozzila for violating (wrongful termination) an employee's fundamental right to vote and lawfully participate in the political process. No one's above the law and the rule of lawyers.

    ..

As for the situation with D'Souza, it is perfectly in keeping with Holder's agenda to use the tools, resources and people in the department of justice to conduct witch hunts, just as this president, Holder and possibly the office of representative Elijah Cummings have used the IRS.

    ..

As evidenced by Holder's reaction to Louie Gohmert the other day on whether or not he takes his own contempt of Congress charge seriously, any criticism of the workings of Eric's tiny little agenda driven brain must be "racism".

This particular attorney general is driven only by the content of that tiny little brain, has packed the dept. of justice with ideologues who share his biases and sees himself as having "wide latitude" on which United States laws to enforce and which to ignore.

Until this situation changes and Eric is sent off into the hinterlands to contemplate his navel, this idiotic danse macabre will continue.

    ..

When the people see their government ignoring the rule of law the people will eventually take that position as well. Woe betide those same governmet officials...
