Kindergartner brings gun to Texas school, 3 hurt

HOUSTON – Officials say three students have been injured after a Houston kindergartner brought a gun to school that accidentally discharged when it fell out of the child's pocket.

Houston Independent School District Assistant Police Chief Robert Mock says the students were injured by fragments after one bullet discharged in the school's cafeteria about 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the student who took the gun to Ross Elementary School was among the three slightly injured. Houston Independent School District Public Information Officer Norm Uhl tells Fox News that none of the injuries appears to be life-threatening.

Images taken from Houston television KPRC's news helicopter show three children being wheeled to ambulances on stretchers. All were sitting up and appeared to be talking with emergency personnel.

This is a case of utter neglect. The "parents" should be held liable to the full extent. How in the WORLD does a 6-year old get access to your firearm??!?!

Who dressed this child for school ?? How could they not notice ?? How did it even fit in his pocket?! Have you ever seen little kid clothes? They're built...for little people. Irresponsible parents = the occurrence of random mishaps happening with more often

Gun ownership requires gun responsibility. Whomever put a gun in a place where this kid could get it, or whomever failed to properly secure this weapon bears the blame for what happened.

There are a lot of guns out there. There are a lot of kids out there. There are a lot of shoddy or non-existent parents out there. The news picks up on stories involving death, mayhem, sex, bloodshed, violence, titillation and sensation in general. Yet this is the first time I have seen this in a long time.

This has nothing to do with religion, politics or the NRA. It's a shame but we live in a dangerous world and no amount of parenting by the government is going to replace the real thing. In a nation of 300 million, you are going to get situations like this. Would everyone stop using this as their poster child for whatever cause they want to espouse and just make sure their own kid doesn't get hold of something dangerous to other kids?

That is the only lesson I can see from this.
