CENTRAL, LA (WAFB) - Homicide investigators are still looking into the details behind a deadly shooting Tuesday night in Central which claimed one life. A suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, witnesses reported gunfire at Hooper Road at Sullivan Road just after 8 p.m.
An officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department happened to be on his way home. He stopped and held the suspect until deputies could make it out to the scene. It is unclear whether the officer saw the shooting or heard about the reports of it while driving.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his gunshot wounds. Neither his name nor the name of the accused shooter was released by authorities.
Detectives reported they believe the shooting happened after the victim chased a relative down Hooper Road and while both cars were stopped at the intersection of Hooper and Sullivan, there was an altercation and shots rang out.
Deputies said this is an ongoing investigation. They urge additional possible witnesses to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867
