What he did with Cash for Clunkers, he’ll do for health care.
That’s not a promise. It’s a guarantee
Less Than Half Of Cash For Clunkers Spending Actually Went To Dealers
$1.22 billion for the intended purpose. $1.66 billion for administering the money for the intended purpose
WASHINGTON – Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says the government has approved $1.22 billion in reimbursements to car dealers for sales under the Cash for Clunkers program. ...
The rebates led to more than 690,000 new car sales at a taxpayer cost of $2.88 billion. Auto dealers have said the Obama administration has been slow to pay them for the car incentives, which ended on Aug. 24.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090910/...h_for_clunkers
Another POV : The $1.22 billion number is the amount of rebates paid back so far. The remaining isn’t entirely administrative costs but also the amount of rebates yet unpaid. According to this article, though, the administrative costs to date have been $144 per rebate. That’s a lot of money for a simple car rebate, and with 690,000 rebates to process we’re talking over $100 million to process rebates for a program that lasted weeks. Still not every efficient.
[quote]C.A.R.S. ended Monday night and the numbers are in.
At first blush, things look positive.
First, 690,114 vouchers were submitted asking for $2.877 billion (just under the program's $3 billion limit). There was also $100 million used for administration costs (as Autoblog calculates, about $144 for every claim processed) and there is $23 million or so left over. Flash analysis by the White House Council of Economic Advisers says the program boosted economic growth in the 3Q by 4/10ths of a percent and created or saved 42,000 jobs that still remain, at least for the near future.
How did the overall fuel economy change because of the new 700,000 vehicles on the road? Only two of the top 10 vehicles purchased were from the Big Three – the Ford Focus FWD came in fourth and the Ford Escape FWD was tenth – while the Toyota Prius was seventh. In fact, the Big Three got less of a boost from Cash For Clunkers than would be expected given their market share. Only 38.6 percent of the vehicles sold through C.A.R.S. were Ford, GM or Chrysler models but their market share through July this year was 45.3 percent.
The top three vehicles sold using C.A.R.S. were the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Toyota Camry. As for the vehicles being clunked, every single one of the top ten were big honkers from the Big Three: Explorers, F-150s, Blazers, etc. This resulted in an overall fuel economy increase of 58 percent. The clunkers averaged 15.8 mpg; the new vehicles averaged 24.9 mpg. You can find out detailed numbers, including rebate requests by state, after the jump.
The next big question: how will auto sales fare in September?

No I don't believe everything the gov't tells me, I've never taken a flu shot in my entire life & I'm seriously thinking about it since once again I'm sick again here in FL. I don't look forward to tourists bringing all their illnesses down here this winter, think about it & than tell me how I shouldn't be worried about the Swine Flu at all.
The thought of injecting any virus into my veins scares the hell out of me, after June's illness that racked up over $7K in medical bills & no diagnois of WTH I had that kept coming back for 3 weeks. It also scares the hell out of me on the knowledge of these insurance raping Dr's I had been recommended to.....

I don't think I was the one be pissy asking you do you believe everything the gov't tells you.
Your democrat & vote for the person not the party? Isn't that being an independant????
I'm not ashamed of being a democrat & don't recall asking you if you voted for Obama or not & I only hope you voted for someone or your voice means nothing to my ears.
IMO the Swine Flu vaccination is greatly needed & not just a gov't money maker.

going on the 24'th to get my 2 youngest their flu shots.I have no idea yet if it is a regular flu shot or swine flu.I know my pediatrician is a parent and trust her opinion over any websites the brainwashed people keep posting.
If a respected doctor tells me I should do it,I research it and usually do it.
I think a lot of people wind up brainwashed into thinking EVERONE is against them.I feel sorry for the people who are so paranoid that they actually believe the things they do.Slow down and smell the roses, most people aren't bad.

I love you ... but statements like this lead me to assume that you consider those who agree with you to be enlightened; and those who disagree with you are "brainwashed" and/or "paranoid" ??

I'm sorry Jolie, but I can't resist...and those that disagree with our line of thinking say that we drink the Kool Aid.

Not at all.I think people sprouting the "drinking the koolaid"thing to be a little unbalanced. As far as I can recall, you haven't done so.My point was that if you disagree with some people, they assume you are brainwashed. If there is any chance I am brainwashed, there is also the chance that you are,am I wrong?
