That's ONE of the reasons some people are losing their homes. People are also losing their homes because they bought based on their income, some even conservatively, and then got laid off. When former engineers are working as pizza delivery guys they aren't going to be able to make ends meet.
People are also losing their homes because they lose their insurance when they get laid off so they have to pay a mint for COBRA. They can't afford both their homes and their medicines so they choose their health.
People are also losing their homes because they are military reservists. They worked professional jobs in the private sector then got called to Iraq and their incomes were chopped, sometimes by as much as 75%. The banks can't foreclose while they are activated but the minute they get home they do.
Military reservists are also losing their homes because no one will hire them. It doesn't matter what their education or experience is. If their resume says they are reservists companies know they will likely be called up again and they have to hold their job while they are gone. So they just don't bother hiring them in the 1st place.
These aren't people trying to keep up with the Joneses. These are hard working Americans with financial sense who have been screwed by the economy, corporate greed, or the government. No, not everyone losing their homes is in that group. But not everyone is some greedy keeping up with the Jones type either.

Am I the only one who notices a strong note of contempt for people in particular posts throughout this board? ...people are greedy, lazy, immoral fools who shouldn't expect the government to help them; society is falling apart, etc. etc. It makes me depressed to think that there are so many people who think this way!
Let's remember one thing: WE, the PEOPLE, pay for and own this government and it should do what we want it to. It's supposed to represent us and is supposed to be "of the people, for the people and by the people." So if we want it to pay for square-dancing lessons for everyone because we think it's an inalienable right, it should do that! (Not that I'm advocating that
) It is not up to our elected representatives to decide what is best for us, as if we were foolish children, and it is not up to them to "give the house away" to companies/groups that pay them to do so.
I like what the French government official said in "Sicko." It was something like, "In America, people are afraid of the government. In France, the government is afraid of the people." That's because they know that the people can fire them at any time! I'm tired of being told that most of us are too lazy, stupid or immoral, and that only a few "chosen" people can save us!

Excellent post!
Sadly, I dont believe for one minute that the American people have anything to say about what goes on. Thats been proven more than once. The government does treat us like stupid idiots who are incapable of doing anything.
