    Beer gets seatbelt. Child doesn't

    Beer gets seatbelt. Child doesn't
    1 hour, 1 minute ago

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Police have arrested a motorist they say had a 24-pack of beer strapped in with a seat belt but had a 16-month-old girl unrestrained in the back seat with the toddler's mother.

Tina D. Williams was pulled over in St. Augustine on Sunday for allegedly running a red light.

A 24-pack of Busch beer was strapped in with the passenger-side seat belt, according to an arrest report. The girl was in the back seat with 20-year-old Amber Tedrick, who is the toddler's mother.

Williams, 46, said she didn't know why the child wasn't restrained.

Williams refused to take a breath test and a deputy found two metal pipes commonly used to smoke drugs in her purse, authorities said.

Williams was charged with driving under the influence, child abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license, a jail official said. She remained in the St. Johns County jail Tuesday after bail was set at $31,000.

The jail did not have the name of her attorney. It was not clear if Tedrick would face any charges, but the child was released to her care, according to The Florida Times-Union.

This isnt even shocking anymore! Some people have to make sure and protect their crack stems and beer, but could care less if the baby flys through the windshield.

Many people will give this lady a pass because she is an addict, I am not so inclined.

If the mother was in the car why didn't she make sure that her child was properly restrained? Why is the focus here on the addict?
Why wasn't the mother ticketed for child abuse also?

I guess we know where her priorities are. I hope the baby is taken care of at home. But I doubt it.

She may have been - the article doesn't say she was not charged, only that they were not sure.

The driver of a vehicle is ultimatley responsible for the passengars. DH was ticketed once because *I* wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

I sure hope you wear your seatbelt now.

My grandmother was telling me about this, I remember she said she got charged with three things, I think child endangerment was one of them.

I also dont recall anyone saying anything about letting her off.

I was wearing it "improperly" because I had the shoulderstrap behind my back instead of in front. I was like 45 months pregnant with twins and the danged belt was big enough to fit ! We were stopped at a red light when the officer in the next lane signaled DH to pull over.

Although, I hate that the Government can legislate mandataory Seat Belt laws for me as an adult.

they are all about generating additional funds for local municipalities.

If I want to go flying through my windshield, that should be my right as an American.

Why would you want to be horribly mangled in a Car accident?

If I personally am in a real bad one, I hope I just die.

The so called shoulder restraints in most vehicles crosses right over my wifes throat!!!

In an accident she would likely be decapitated!

same way with my daughter she got her arm out of the shoulder straps and hubby got a ticket for not having her in a car seat
