    Hurricane Dorian evacuation

So here I am, evacuated for the 3rd time in 3 years. The pet-friendly hotel in Columbia, SC is about 3 hrs away from our home. Never stayed here before, and never will again. It is a dirty, disgusting place. Unfortunately with 360,000 people evacuated in SC, there's not a lot of availability. Despite the sign saying the whole hotel was 100% smoke free the room reeked of cigarette smoke -- and there is an ashtray on the nightstand! I tried to switch rooms when we arrived, the only other room smelled as bad as ours. I won't even get into the other disgusting things.

I'm hopeful the hurricane doesn't slam into us (near Myrtle Beach) and we're able to return home soon. It took us 2 days to get the house ready for the possibility of flooding, move things to higher places, get the outdoor things secured or put away and it will take us another 5 days to clean up when we get home. From past experience we'll have tree branches and leaves and general debris everywhere to clean up outdoors. My biggest problem indoors is remembering where I put everything to keep it safe!

Hope all went well for you - weather is so unpredictable. I can't begin to imagine the difficulty in getting prepared to evacuate. The fact that hurricane season lasts for months in unnerving.

Thanks. Storm surge did not hit during high tide, Dorian didn't hit us directly, all in all we dodged a bullet again. And, we got to leave the disgusting hotel after only 2 days! All quiet in the Atlantic right now. Hope it stays that way.
