Smile Angry @ my own stupidity, put my insulin in the freezer by accident

I am so upset at myself right now. After my PM insulin injection I carried my insulin into the kitchen to put it in the refrigerator and got my dinner out of my freezer, in that minute I must have put the insulin in the freezer. At 6 PMish I went in to get ice for my hot coke and low and behold there was my insulin. I am so upset! It was frozen solid. So of course I frantically call my pharmacist and they tell me they dont know, to call the manufacturer. Of course, they are closed after 6 PM, so I am sitting and stewing. I get one vial of insulin a month covered but if it is not OK to use I am so screwed. I am just heartbroken right now over my little accident.

One vial lasts a whole month? Man, I thought it was more than that... I'm just grateful I don't have to use it. I hope yours is ok!

this can happen easily, you are not dumb! Check your sugar level, and if
need be...drink some alcohol. It will help lower your sugar levels for the
meantime. I don't recommend this method, but long ago, a nurse told me
that, she was the dumb one..you don't tell a recovering alcoholic that.

You be safe, and call 911 if need be! They cannot release you until you
are stable. They also have to make sure you have meds.

Do NOT drink as a solution to a high blood sugar - take a walk it will do much better.

Please do let us know if it is OK after being in the freezer. I personally never put mine in the frig once it is opened. I leave it on my dresser as cold insulin shots SUCK. Room temp is fine as long as you have A/C and heat in your house as it will not get hot enough to do any damage. I even keep a vial in my purse all the time and it has never hurt it their either. I have to say though 1 vial a month is not a lot. Hopefully it will be Ok.

By vial I meant one bottle which has enough doses for me to take it twice a day, I called the manufaturer and they offered to replace it for me for free, I couldnt believe it I was in tears! This just teaches me to slow down and pay a little bit better attention. Thanks for everyones responses

Well is it ok to use if it has been frozen? I would think it should be or it might just not work as well. But I could imagine doing the same thing myself (including the tears from freaking out).

Well you must have posted while I was typing. Good to know - don't freeze my insulin. Thanks.

Ha! Ha! SLance, no I didn't mean the alcohol as a solution, but in case of emergency only, and I
cannot walk. That's why I said that nurse was dumb. Giggling.

That's good they are sending you a replacement bottle. I hope they get it to you fast. I'm assuming you don't have anymore to use until you do get it.
